    So upset this place closed

A go to neighborhood spot for me. I loved this place. It was the closest restaurant to a farm to table concept on the uws. The food was excellent and the value was tremendous considering the quality of food. I will really miss the gluten free pizzas - the best. Please come back!

What a difference a year makes

Didn't have a very favorable impression a year ago, but I love this place now. Salads are fresh and zesty. Pizzas -- Alba especially -- is divine. My boyfriend loves the lasagna and I love the wine list. Service is the bomb as is their enormous outdoor patio. Worth the trek if you aren't local.

    Parents with Kids Beware

The first time we went to The Yard they sat our group of seven at a table for six. But the food was good, and we did our best with the many dishes that arrived simultaneously- no staging of appetizers, drinks, etc. – Many items had to be shoved together on platters because there wasn’t enough table space. We had kids with us that day- maybe they figure that if the people are smaller- they can squeeze you into a smaller space (of course the table top only fits so much food). Decided to return –mainly for the truffle pizza- hoping they wouldn’t repeat the problem. We had a reservation for five people this time, through Open Table. When we arrived, the manager attempted to sit our party of five at a table for four. (Again we were with kids.) We asked if we could have a bigger table. He stated that this table was fine and would work, and that there weren’t any other tables available. A two-seater had just been removed from the 4 person table he was offering us and was sitting adjacent and unoccupied. Just then a party of five arrived (adults) and he sat them at a table for eight. When asked why they got a table large enough for eight, he stated that they had made a reservation for seven, but that two of them did not show up. Increasingly irritated we told him that we would wait for a larger table to open up. He replied that no, this table for four was a wonderful table and that would be our table. It seemed clear that he was making an economic decision- alcohol and total food bill is probably less for families. I get why he wants the restaurant to make more money for the night- but creating ill will is a really good way to lose money for a restaurant. Why deal with families and kids that way? His attitude throughout was obnoxious and patronizing- we decided not to stay. Life is too short and there are too many good restaurants in New York to deal with hosts who are jerks.

    Delish!

Had a great meal at The Yard. Delicious food, great service and great vibe there. Our table had the rigatoni, pizza w/proscuitto, burger and steak. All fabulous.

    great place

this place is great for the neighborhood but also in general. they provide friendly service along with delicious food, love the mix of the two cuisines and the options available.

    great neighborhood spot

for those of who live in this neighborhood (the region west of amsterdam between 64 and 70th) this place is a real godsend! before the yard, there was literally no other restaurant in this area. its a really comfortable homey place with good food and friendly service. plus it serves double-duty with both chinese (pretty darn good actually!) and italian food (comfortably better than average!). plus the sushi is good too. definitely recommended.

Great pizza - too bad they decided to add the asian

The Italian here is really great, though a bit overpriced. The pizza is top notch. But I think the addition of the Asian menu has led to a general decline in the quality of the experience. The two parts of the restaurant do not mesh well and there is not enough seating to support two completely separate restaurants sharing the same space, especially when it will get colder and people will no longer want to sit outside. Also, a couple good friends of mine who used to love the restaurant can no longer eat there because they are nut allergic and cannot eat in Asian restaurants. You do not normally expect to have to worry about that in an Italian restaurant.
