Not a good REstaurant Week Value

Having passed by the Thalia forever, my husband and I decided to make a reservation there during Restaurant Week. We had tickets to Spring Awakening around the corner, so it was quite convenient. The atmosphere inside is lovely with recessed lighting and various levels. My husband had a wonderful polenta with mushrooms; very tasty. I started with the dungeness crab cake which was terrible: 1 small cake, and no discernible crab taste at all. This was followed by sea scallops, of which I had 2 on a bed of broccolini and a small portion of mashed potatoes. Altho the scallops were prepared well, only 2 does not an entree make! The dessert was fair. My husband had a lamb pasta which had a fair sized portion and was delicious. Perhaps it was the luck of the draw, but not a value for restaurant week. IF we go again, I'd concentrate on the pastas.

    Pre-theater perfection

We got to the restaurant at 7:00 pm and had a show at 8:00. We were served immediately. We really liiked the bread and pate and the waiter even brought us seconds. The salad was very good and my pasta was delicious. We were at the theater by 7:30. Thalia's is a great choice for someone in a hurry who still wants good service and delicious food even when your in a rush. Sherri

Good Option in the Theater District

I was meeting a group of friends for dinner (not pre-theater) and didn't expect to like it but I was pleasantly surprised. All of the salads were quite good, albeit on the pricey side and the main dishes were also very good and reasonably priced (mid-$20s) considering the location. They have several decent options in the lower end of the wine spectrum (under $40). You won't be dazzled but you won't be disappointed either (my budget doesn't allow the expensive wines). At the table, we ordered the double-cut pork chop (huge portion), short ribs, roast chicken and the cod. Everyone was very happy with their dish and many of us took home leftovers. The space is really nice and the location is great. I'll definitely go back.

    Gratuity

well, upon visiting this well reviewed restaurant I was really disappointed. Service was dreadful in comparison to other NYC restaurants. We were twice given the wrong order and at the end had to ask 4 times for the check before it was delivered. At the bottom of their menu they say an 18% gratuity would be added for parties over 6 people. Despite the fact that there were only three of us this 18% was automatically added. This infuriated me, I tip well and also around 20% for it to be added without my consent annoyed me. Thalia really needs to match its customer service to its decor.....

Best Meal On Our New York Trip

We made reservations before the theater, found a nice little table and had a tough time deciding which of the fantastic sounding dishes to try. The server was friendly and attentive, and had good suggestions. My wife and I shared the dishes we each ordered, and it was all fantastic. When deciding upon a wine, the server brought us some samples of a few different wines that were available. We had wine, dinner, and dessert and the total came up to around $90. The best meal and the best value we found in New York City.

    great lunch

Today I took my son to Thalia for the second time. He has d it his new favorite rest. I had taken him back in Feb, and he asked to go again. So we took the lirr into the city just to go to Thalia for lunch. The service was great they were very attentive to my son which is important to me, I don'g go for restaurants that ignore cfhildren, they are people too. My son had the broccoli soup that was fantastic. I had the homemade mozz, just superb. The burger was good and they were nice enough to make my son the spaghetti he loves there even though it wasn't on the brunch menu. Great value, great food, great service, but most of all the great memories we will have had there. They do not rush you which is nice, if you have a show to make they will make sure you get there in time however if you want to sit and linger that is ok too.

    A great find...

Dinner selections were delicious (scallops and cod dishes) Waiter's advice was dead on for all courses (including dessert). Dinner portions were small but order a salad first - they were hugh.
