    Big disappointment

I used to eat at Thalia quite frequently..that is when it first opened. I was very pleased with the food and the pre-theatre prix fixe menu. I ate there recently and found the food preparation and presentation to be extremely mediocre and a big disappointment. Do not recommend.

A really good place to eat.

I usually try to avoid the restaurants right on the Avenues. But we dropped in just after we arrived in Manhattan, around 7:00 PM, really because it was conveniently a few 10's of yards from the Hilton Garden Inn where we were staying and looked kinda full (usually a good indication?) and had a nice interior. I had a wonderful Seared Tuna on sushi rice ($31)and a honey / straw mushroom sauce. My wife a wonderful wild mushroom Ravioli ($21). Both plates were impeccably presented and both delicious. A little pricy yes, but the quality of the food and the atmosphere of the place were well worth it. Service was excellent and quick. Yes, we'll be going again.

    Extremely disappointed

I was extremely disappointed with the treatment that my guests and I received at Thalia restaurant, August 12, 2013. I reserved the lounge for 20 people to celebrate my birthday. My interactions with the staff prior to the event had been very positive. They appeared to be attentive and very professional. This all changed at my birthday celebration. The waitress that was appointed to serve my party was down right surly. She treated us as if she had drawn the short stick and her punishment was to be our waitress. My guests and I made a conscious choice to ignore her rudeness in order that we enjoy ourselves. At the end of the evening one of my guests spoke to the manager to advise him of rudeness of the waitress and the slow service that we received. The manager spoke to the waitress and came back to address our issues. He made a bad situation worse. He told my guest that according to the waitress he had no basis for complaint because he only ordered two drinks. This prompted my guest to bring the manager to me. After discussing what happened during the evening. The manager apologized for both his and the waitress’ rudeness and brought us a drink. I am a very generous tipper and had the service been better I would have added to the 18% gratuity that was included in the bill. While the food and drinks were tasty; needless to say, I will not be returning.

    good food-loud music

Good location after theater-food good but LOUD--jarring music in dinning area, is designed to discourage you from lingering! If you go ask, to eat in bar area, where music is lower in sound. Have eaten here many times but no more.

    Loved it!

I ate here back in 2010 around october time. I sat in the lounge area with my husband. We were seated and our waitress came right to us. nice smile and had great attitude. She gaves us our menus and we ordered two cocktails(the ginger one and i can't remember what my husband ordered. Our drinks came quickly, and we ordered. Our dinner was fabulous! I had the pasta special which was amazing! And my husband had the Thalia burger. I had a wonderful experience. Our waitress was polite and talkative, asking her where we were from. She had a positive attitude and seemed so nice! It was great having a waitress who takes and interest in you and is friendly(great accent might I add) I recently came back in for food in may. Had another decent time but this time our waitress was quite rude and ignored us a lot of the time. Definite difference. Food was great! Service was great the first time round, not the second! Drinks were awesome!

    Oysters at Thalia

Having been to Thalia with a group of friends in the past, I decided to take a couple of friends visiting from Calgary for some drinks and oysters. A few drinks and five dozen oysters later, everyone left happy. The service was great, the oysters super fresh and delicious, and the lounge perfect for casual conversation. A WINNER!

    My favorite NYC restaurant

I ate hear once in 2010 and then took my daughter here last week, April of 2011. The first time I was by myself, the restaurant was empty at lunchtime (I think I was early), and I had a relaxing, delicious meal - so creative! The soup special was just wonderful (a couscous in a saffron infused chicken broth), and I liked it enough to go back. The second time, last week, my daughter and I went at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. It was not empty, but not full. We were seated right away, and I had the special pasta dish - a capellini in a vegetable/broth mixture - delicious! My daughter at the 1/2 chicken on the menu, and she couldn't believe how good it was. She raves to her friends how much she loves Thalia's!
