good food-loud music
Good location after theater-food good but LOUD--jarring music in dinning area, is designed to discourage you from lingering! If you go ask, to eat in bar area, where music is lower in sound. Have eaten here many times but no more.

Loved it!
I ate here back in 2010 around october time. I sat in the lounge area with my husband. We were seated and our waitress came right to us. nice smile and had great attitude. She gaves us our menus and we ordered two cocktails(the ginger one and i can't remember what my husband ordered. Our drinks came quickly, and we ordered. Our dinner was fabulous! I had the pasta special which was amazing! And my husband had the Thalia burger. I had a wonderful experience. Our waitress was polite and talkative, asking her where we were from. She had a positive attitude and seemed so nice! It was great having a waitress who takes and interest in you and is friendly(great accent might I add) I recently came back in for food in may. Had another decent time but this time our waitress was quite rude and ignored us a lot of the time. Definite difference. Food was great! Service was great the first time round, not the second! Drinks were awesome!

Oysters at Thalia
Having been to Thalia with a group of friends in the past, I decided to take a couple of friends visiting from Calgary for some drinks and oysters. A few drinks and five dozen oysters later, everyone left happy. The service was great, the oysters super fresh and delicious, and the lounge perfect for casual conversation. A WINNER!

My favorite NYC restaurant
I ate hear once in 2010 and then took my daughter here last week, April of 2011. The first time I was by myself, the restaurant was empty at lunchtime (I think I was early), and I had a relaxing, delicious meal - so creative! The soup special was just wonderful (a couscous in a saffron infused chicken broth), and I liked it enough to go back. The second time, last week, my daughter and I went at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. It was not empty, but not full. We were seated right away, and I had the special pasta dish - a capellini in a vegetable/broth mixture - delicious! My daughter at the 1/2 chicken on the menu, and she couldn't believe how good it was. She raves to her friends how much she loves Thalia's!

The best place for dinner
Came before the show with my family and everything was perfect starting with the service. The drink my daughter didn't like was replaced immediately with another one. The bread basket was wonderful, the oysters -- fresh and delicious! The appetizers, crab cake and spicy salmon tartare were superb! The dishes we had from the burger to Mayan prawns were fresh and delicious! Don't miss out on dessert -- tiramisu is simply excellent!

Thalia Cafe on 50th
Thalia has a little cofffe shop attached to the main restaurant but facing 50th street. I am only reviewing this part of the restaurant. IT IS AMAZING. There are the same two friendly ladies running it every morning. I think it is the best coffee in the neighborhood. The only other decent quality coffee I have found near my office is the Illy that they make at the Food Emporium on 8th. In addition to having high quality and well-priced coffee ($2.75 medium cappuccino is my drink of choice), their baked goods are out of control. Pumpkin-chocolate chip/pumpkin raisin muffins, apple muffins, cranberry & blueberry scones, buttered biscuits, assorted croissants, and more. It's just all really fresh and there are always new varieties, it's hard to limit myself to one muffin a week. They also have their own yogurt with assorted fruit - just all around a little gem of a to-go cafe hidden right next to the A,C,E uptown entrance on 50th street. Highly recommended.
