Best Greek Restaurant in New York

Had dinner at Thalassa for my first time, noticed it walking down the street and my friends and i all decided to try it out. The food / service / ambiance is all superb. Their wine selection is also astonishingly huge. They have a fish display as well which was really intriguing and made my experience there that much better. I'd recommend Thalassa and also ending your meal with a Panna Cotta! ;)

    Do they employ cooks here?

I have been to Thalassa on many occasions because it is quite close to work. Last night's experience was extremely disappointing. Food quality has become really poor compared to previous visits. We were impressed by the fresh array of seafood on ice when we sat down but what the kitchen did to those expensive ingredients was shameful. The langoustines were undercooked and mushy. Turbot was overcooked. They claimed to grill the seafood but there was no grill marks nor any hint of flame. It was all pan seared in bad oil and bland. The vegetables were disgusting. It looked like they had been boiled to the point that it was devoid of any green color and served without any kind of seasoning. I feel bad that I did not post after good experiences at the restaurant and only posting now because of a negative experience. Nevertheless, the warning is justified so people don't waste their good money on this sort of cooking.

    Really?

I was referred to this restaurant by a waiter at another restaurant in Chelsea. He is Greek and claimed that this was one of NY's best Greek reastaurants. Really? The atmoshpere was more than pretenous, seems as though they really cater to the Tribeca Eurotrash clientelle only who are interested in spending money and not receiving value for the money spent. The waiter was not only opionated on what we should order, none of his suggestions were taken, but he also failed to executed the order as placed by the diners at my table. After the 3rd mistake he offered to send the manager over...never to appear. Greek food should be served in an atmosphere that's warm and friendly, it is part of the culture. I am not even sure if an actual Grrek individual had their hand in this restaurant design, plan or kitchen.

    Lovely Lunch

Had Restaurant Week lunch here today. The host was welcoming, the service attentive and the food delicious and plentiful. I look forward to returning for dinner some time soon.

All you get is a swanky space

I promised myself I would write a review for Thalassa because it was *that* disappointing. I had a company event there last night. We ate in an upstairs room, where we were served hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and eventually dinner. The busboys aside, the help staff was pretty snooty. I ordered a tequila sunrise at the bar and the dude tried to give me Jose Cuervo. As this was a company event, I was like, "No, no, give me the Patron, please." That really irked the bartender. Later when I returned I noticed that the Patron had magically disappeared... The hors d'oeuvres were decent. I give the little tuna tartar trumpet a resounding 9/10. But otherwise, the food was totally subpar. We had a choice between chicken, fish, or steak. I tried all three, and all three lacked salt, flavor, taste. There wasn't even a hint of originality. I wouldn't have recognized it as Greek food either.

    Very Nice Touch!

I corporate dine a lot & always take 6-10 or so people to dinner,so far I have been at Thalassa twice & both experiences where fantastic. I read the review below & Since the food is made to order it doesn’t come out immediately as people should know that fine dinning is Not fast just like every other restaurant - Food is Made to Order, also today we know where we are eating and what to expect when the bill arrives, Thalassa is no more expensive than any other Tribeca restaurant. The Food is the Freshest ! the Wine list has such Amazing Values & is a huge book . This restaurant is an amazing restaurant - I can’t wait to go Back! Forgot to mention that the service is absolutely attentive. Try family style apps & leave room for dessert
