Completely agree with the review, below. I came here all the time when they first opened and I would crave their Mahi or Shrimp tacos. Unfortunately, you now get 1/3 less food for the same price. Mahi tacos used to have avocado, slaw and other accompaniments and now you just get two store-bought tasting tacos with a small piece of previously frozen Mahi (I assume this since mine was still partially frozen in the middle) with a little bit of slaw. No avocado or guac on the side. It wasn't just "not as good"...it was unappetizing. I was trying to send it back but our server never appeared again until we flagged her down for the bill. At least the Hibiscus margs are still incredible...but that's all this place has going for it now.

My bf and I frequented Teqa over the summer about twice a month. The menu was simple, service (usually) good, and the food was quite tasty. Went back tonight to find they have a new chef ("from LA" the owner told us) and a completely revamped menu. I was happy to see that there was more variety on the new menu. However, the portion were significantly smaller (2 tacos instead of 3), which basically forced you to get 2 entrees if you had an average appetite. The biggest disappointment of the night was the taste of the food -- the grilled fish tacos were INCREDIBLY bland and most everything else (carne asada tacos, black bean side) was over the top salty. Even the slaw (which the owner brought over complimentary after I noted that the fish tacos didn't have much on them anymore) tasted like salt and vinegar. The BBQ pork tacos were the best of what we tried, with nice chunks of pork and a smoky sweet BBQ sauce. Unfortunately we wont be going back to Teqa ... the new chef was a terrible idea and this place is now just another pseudo trendy Murray Hill joint with bad food. Sad to say.

This is a restaurant in a nightclub. The 'greeters'/staff on the front desk desperately need some service training (seems a little shocking that restauranteurs that spend so much money building these fabulous looking places, and presumably putting a lot of effort into designing menus etc.....then fail to realise that everything is soured by having sulky individuals fronting the whole thing). Very loud and dark (we had to use cell phones to see the menus!) - the nano second you put a fork down your plate is whizzed away...they cant wait to get rid of you (we were a table of 6 so ready to spend plenty of money if they'd only let us). Wouldnt go back - there are a million better drinking & dining experiences in NY than this.

Service - horrible. Food - poor at best. Our expectations were high - however the restaurant failed to deliver on every level - FYI - They dont serve tacos on the weekend until 5pm - news flash, we can eat eggs next door or across the street, we come to a taco joint for tacos, not for eggs with guacomole. Couldnt be unhappier with this overpriced addition to the area.

What a disappointment! I walk by Teqa every morning on my way to work and finally stopped in last night with my boyfriend. The atmosphere is cool and trendy, but everything else was so-so. We got drinks to start; my marg was watery and did not live up to its expectations. We ordered the nachos to start. The first few bites were decent, but the plate quickly turned into watery mush since there was so much junk piled on top of the chips. Our server kept rushing us to order mains, and when the mains came out, never came back to check on us. Carnitas tacos were blah... my bf got the shrimp tacos which were probably the best part of the meal. The tacos are tiny though, and have very little filling in them - definitely NOT worth the $14 pricetag. I ordered a side of balck beans, which were definitely straight up a can of black beans dumped into a bowl. They were watery and had no flavor whatsoever (and not worth the $8 pricetag!). Had to hunt down our server for the check. A dissapoinment to say the least! There are SO many other better mexican restaurants in that area - Dos Caminos, Mexico Lindo... heck, I'd even choose Blockheads over this place anyday!

Once again I went out to eat in Murray Hill, where I unfortunately live, and found a sub-par restaurant. Its sleek interior belies mediocrity. clearly food isn't the priority here. Maybe the tequila selection is great, I wouldn't know. I had quesadillas--make sure to order that chipotle aioli on the side because it ruins the quesadilla. everything else i ate was bland. Bah--just another crappy Murray Hill restaurant. clearly quality isn't a concern for the local clientele, as evidenced by the seeming success of places like Caliente Cab Co.

We were excited to see a cute new place open up in the neighborhood...but what a disappointment! The food wasn't good and incredibly overpriced. The tacos are very small and just not that good. I'm not looking for authenticity, just good food and this was not the place to find it. The atmosphere is ok and the service was fine and we were seated quickly.
