mexicanly impressed!
im from california where we pride ourselves on mexican food. i just moved to ny and was craving a fix of guacamole & tacos...something to remind me of home! a next door neighbor suggested this place. my roommate & i were thoroughly impressed. shes from ca too. the guac trio was amazing....spicy habanero one was awesome! the mahi mahi tacos reminded me of the beach and warm weather....it was a perfect day so we sat outside and before u know it we were on our 3 round of margaritas which are to die for!! spicy cucumber & there is this red one with a flower on top...so pretty! the waiter was so helpful & the music made the afternoon that much more great! def coming back for another fix :) tuna tartare looked tasty too

Blandest food ever
I ordered their fish of the day for $26... It was cod that ended up deep fried when i assumed it would just be pan seared. Had 0 flavor to it and was accompanied w/ rice and veges that also lacked even an ounce of flavor. The saving grace of my meal was that it was a work expense... I'd rather go somewhere else next time. If I need a scene I can go to a nightclub. Definitely not coming here for a tasty meal again.

This upscale taco shop is grossly overpriced. For 10-15 dollars they give you 2 small tacos. I agree with other reviewers that state the portions given in the tacos are even sadder. I will never go here again.

Tequila!
Love the tequila selection! Make sure to check out the traditional Tommy's margarita. There's a new chef who's taken some of the older menu items and revamped them, definitely try the Negro Modelo Chicken entree. Service is great, and although the music can be loud it's a fun and energetic place for a date.

Beautiful addition to Murray Hill
This restaurant is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and clearly enjoy working together, the food is great, and the cocktails are delicious. Finally, the tequila list is very impressive, by far the most varied and extensive you'll find in the neighborhood. A great place to spend an evening.

Completely agree with the review, below. I came here all the time when they first opened and I would crave their Mahi or Shrimp tacos. Unfortunately, you now get 1/3 less food for the same price. Mahi tacos used to have avocado, slaw and other accompaniments and now you just get two store-bought tasting tacos with a small piece of previously frozen Mahi (I assume this since mine was still partially frozen in the middle) with a little bit of slaw. No avocado or guac on the side. It wasn't just "not as good"...it was unappetizing. I was trying to send it back but our server never appeared again until we flagged her down for the bill. At least the Hibiscus margs are still incredible...but that's all this place has going for it now.

New chef, bad news
My bf and I frequented Teqa over the summer about twice a month. The menu was simple, service (usually) good, and the food was quite tasty. Went back tonight to find they have a new chef ("from LA" the owner told us) and a completely revamped menu. I was happy to see that there was more variety on the new menu. However, the portion were significantly smaller (2 tacos instead of 3), which basically forced you to get 2 entrees if you had an average appetite. The biggest disappointment of the night was the taste of the food -- the grilled fish tacos were INCREDIBLY bland and most everything else (carne asada tacos, black bean side) was over the top salty. Even the slaw (which the owner brought over complimentary after I noted that the fish tacos didn't have much on them anymore) tasted like salt and vinegar. The BBQ pork tacos were the best of what we tried, with nice chunks of pork and a smoky sweet BBQ sauce. Unfortunately we wont be going back to Teqa ... the new chef was a terrible idea and this place is now just another pseudo trendy Murray Hill joint with bad food. Sad to say.
