Excellent food!
What a wonderful surprise! The food was fantastic. Edamame was plump and not too salty. Seaweed salad was the best I've ever had and they were very generous with their portion. Miso soup was classic and served piping hot. But the special roles were really extraordinary. We had the Evergreen and the Snow. Presentation was beautiful enough to prompt us to take a picture. The fish melted in our mouths. The combination of the Snow which was mostly spicy tuna (chopped) and the Evergreen which had huge chunks of both tuna and yellowfin wrapped in rice paper - just yum, yum, yum. The only reason I give them a 4.5 on service is because the server's English was really not good enough to be a server. The reason we gave the atmosphere a 4 is because we were seated in front of the main desk where three people were constantly taking delivery orders. On a nice day sit outside. Prices were high but no higher than anywhere else.

Gone to the Dogs
The sushi here is OK, I have had better and it is quite expensive especially the drinks. The service at the UWS location as well as this one is snooty and not gracious. I only go to the UES location over the warm weather months in order to sit outside. On this visit there was an available outside table. When I inquired with a friend they said they are waiting for a customer with a dog. We were there then but they wouldn't let us sit land let us go next door to another restaurant. We sat outside and never saw a customer with a dog arrive. In NY it doesn't matter because they will be busy, but they have lost a customer as well as all my friends. Choosing a dog over paying customers! Oh, and I am a dog lover!

Eh Sushi
I have eaten at Tenzen before and found the foods to be very fresh. I had a delivery and it was very disappointing. The rolls were not tasting fresh and they lack the zing factor. The simple Hijiki salad was so BLAND and had no zest to it. I would not recommend it to anyone. It's expensive for the poor food quality. You can spend the same amount of money for quality elsewhere. If you do order or eat there, eat at your own disappointment. Can't say you weren't warned.

not as good as it used to be
When I first came here (and to the one on 52nd St), the sushi was amazing! They put lots of fish and little rice so the rolls are chewy, fresh and tastes different. Lately, although the sushi still tastes pretty good, it doesn't have that "wow factor" that made this place so unique. Also, the rolls occasionally fall apart while I'm eating them, which is really disappointing. Hopefully, this is just a temporary setback and they get back to serving great sushi.

Reliable
I get take out from this place and have been very happy with it so far, especially since I've had so much bad sushi from other places in the neighborhood lately! Everything here is good - the soups, rolls, tempura, etc.

Changes at Tenzan
The sushi is generally very good and fresh. Rolls are very thick with only a little rice which is amazing. If you are spicy tuna fan, I find theirs below average. I have eaten in the restaurant on a few occasion. The atmosphere and decor is nice for a casual neighborhood spot. They recently put an electronic neon sign outside which makes a decent place appear very tacky. Delivery has also gone down. I order lunch from them at least once a week, and the new person on the phone does not speak well. She also told me they couldn't deliver my order bc it came to $9.75, falling short of their apparently new $10 minimum. Lame.. I am definitely going to check out some new places in the hood after this experience.

First time there--very nice
Tonight me and my wife left Ooki because the only tables were at the door and in the middle of the floor, my least favorite locations. We were going to go over to Akita on 1st Ave. but decided to check out Tenzan on the way. My wife had a couple of rolls and I had beef negamaki. We were very satisfied with the food and the service was attentive. The nicest thing was the atmosphere.
