I was surprised at the food at this place after all of the great reviews that I read. Overall I thought the food was not good: The sashimi was medium, the tempura ok, and the spicy salmon was good -- overburdened with sauce -- and the ginger dressing of the salad was also pretty bad. The service was great at first, but once it got crowded we had to wait 15 minutes for a waiter to bring us soy sauce. Overall I was disappointed, maybe we came on a bad night, however, the sashimi was pretty good -- I would recommend the sashimi regular.

the food at tenzen is great. the restaurant gets a little crowded, but has a nice feel to it. good fast service. watch out for the delivery men. they can be unpleasant. one guy expects a big tip. if you don't give it, watch out for the mean glare. overall, great place

i moved to my new place and someone slipped a tenzan menu at my door 1 day. i ordered food and i was surprised the bag was heavy. the serving size is worth the value of your money. the presentation is nice! as if its not take out.. the customer service is real good, from the people who answers ur call, to the delivery people. inside the restaurant though its crowded and loud especially dinner time.. not enough space. its uncomfortable being too close to the next table. and u cant barely hear ur conversation with d person ur with. if ur taking ur girl on a date to tenzan, i recomend lunch not dinner. or take out and set the table nicely at ur place. i take my friends to tenzan and 100% of them agrees its the best jap food they ever tasted compared to any other u can find in ny.i got hooked. we got hooked!

I like the sushi at this place and have not been disappointed with the food at all. My only complaint is that whenever I make a reservation at this place to reserve a table upstairs by the window they always give me a problem when I show up. I think they are getting an attitude now because they are getting popular. Also, they can't wait for you to get out once you finished eating. Not relaxing at all if you are out with friends. Guess I'd have to stick with the take outs.

We ate here twice last week, ordering the Shrimp Tempura both times and both times, the shrimp batter tasted more like Corn Flakes than the usual light and crispy batter one associates with this entree. We have eaten here many times since it first opened; perhaps it is my imagination but the quality of the sushi seems to have diminished.

We have been to Tenzan more times than we can count. For the first year they were open their portions were larger and we never had anything but perfection. Recently, we have had a couple of orders that lacked one thing or another and wonder if they are in fact becoming a bit more sloppy as they have become more popular. That said, overall, Tenzan is excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful, the fish is fresh, and (almost) always the food is out of this world. Promise.

I ordered from Tenzan tonight and was really disapponted with it. The age tofu, which is my favorite dish, had the "off" taste and crumbly texture of tofu that has turned. The harumaki (spring rolls) were not crispy or tasty. The shrimp tempura rolls had too much avacado and were not tasty. The california rolls were also filled with too much avacado and, what's worse, no cucumber at all. The whole thing was pretty sad, considering that sushi is not exactly a cheap meal. Friends tell me this place is good, but I have ordered it twice, have been disappointed both times, and will not order again.
