    Top notch sushi

Only had take out so can't comment on atmos etc but sushi is delicious, fresh and filling - best I've come across on UWS yet. Delivery has always been super quick too. Top marks Tenzan.

Best sushi I've had in a while

Sashimi portions are generous and the mackerel is the best I've ever had. I try something new each time I go. The hamachi kama is delicious, warm and savory, the seared salmon is lovely and delicate. The only disappointment was the Chilean sea bass which is my favorite, but apparently is too subtle to be put into a sushi roll. The service is okay, not terrifically attentive, solicitous, or quick, but I haven't found it offensive. A bit pricey, but worth it for the quality of the food.

    What has happened to Tenzan?

I really had to give them a piece of my mind one day about the service, since there wasn't any. Then, I handed them a check I was not about to pay. My service has improved, but yesterday, my food was not edible. The pan seared veggie dumplings that were delicious the week before were a soggy mess. And, the salmon tartare with garlic crunch was all crunch and no fish. I asked a female server if the chef was new and she said yes. They are opening on 86th St. and brought many of the regular people from Columbus to the new store. Great...I told her that if I'm at a chef's rehearsal, then please discount my prices. The hardest thing for a restaurant to accomplish is some semblance of consistency and this chain is getting bigger and greedier, a good way to lose customers in the neighborhood who loved Tenzan. It wasn't Nobu, but a reasonable neighborhood place to eat. I hope they get their service and food in order.

    lousy service but great food!

This place has the slowest service that I have ever experienced at any restaurant! The food is great though! This would be a good choice if you're not starving or if you are ready to sit and build up your appetite for one hour while they bring your food!

    Best Sushi on the UWS

We love this place. The sushi is amazingly fresh and filling. We have tried a lot of sushi restaurants on the Upper West Side and this is definitely our favorite.

Bad service can't make raw fish taste good

Table service is mediocre and we all know what that is like so I won't bore you with the details. The bar service is almost criminal. As sexist as this may sound, I think bars should start hiring men. I am so utterly tired of young girls who coast on the attention of middle-age men and don't have the slightest idea how to provide service. Do I really need to wait 10 minutes while the bartender talks to her friend or texts and feel like an idiot waiting? Do I have to practically beg for another drink while she talks to every customer at the bar? Do I have to watch a graceless ***** say 'uh huh' to patrons who just spent $200 on fish and beer? Hire a professional bartender, a person with basic grace or just someone who gives a ****. Even if the top chefs in NY worked here, I'd find another place to go. Hint: you'd do far better spending $100 more a night on a pro then you will with $50,000 renovations. Me: I won't be going ever again, nor will my friends or anyone I know or speak to.
