    nice birthday dinner

    i came here with my family for a birthday dinner. we arrived almost 30 minutes early for our 7:30 reservation, and they seated us right away. there was a trio of amuse-bouche, all delicious. the appetizers: smoked trout, egg in a hole, and quail - fantastic, chilled tomato-bread soup - not fantastic. we skipped midcourses and just ordered entrees: all were tasty. the desserts were also great. with two bottles of wine it was a little on the expensive side, but we would definitely return for another special occasion.

    Great brunch

    My friend and I had a terrific brunch at Telepan. It's a bit pricey but worth it,. I had the trout to start, my friend the crepes - both outstanding. We both had the hanger steak and it was delicious. The food was plentiful, but we decided to share a dessert anyway, and are so glad we did. The peanut butter and milk chocolate gianduja was the star of the meal! The service was friendly without being in your face all the time and efficient. We are definitely returning.

    Not quite...

    I want to like this place, the idea of this place is great, but the food falls short. It feels forced and unnatural. There are some dishes that work; but for a place as pricey as it is, I left disappointed. It's odd: for someone who does the whole seasonal ingredients thing, Bill Telepan's food is all very heavy -- he has the mind set of winter though he is using Spring/Summer Vegetables. And, who needs to experience pork 4 different ways? With ok service, I would say the best way to eat here is to sit at the bar. The seats are comfortable, and the bartenders are attentive and funny, real pros.

    Great experience

    I went to Telepan for the first time to celebrate my fiance's birthday. I was very impressed. Great food, perfectly executed. Rabbit confit salad and smoked trout were both excellent starts. We shared lobster bolognese which had wonderful flavor. Her soft shell crabs could be the best I've had. The pork four ways was good but did not steal the show. Overall, a great night. Definitely recommend a visit.

    Delicious and market fresh

    I feel compelled to write a review because there are a few negative ones on here and my husband and I absolutely love this place. We have been to Telepan twice and loved it both times. The chick pea pancakes are delicious as an appetizer. And their fish and steak (especially with the boar sauce) were excellent. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and though they have some simple dishes, there are some very creative ones as well. Their wine selection is also quite nice - they have a Hungarian red that we love. Our waiter was also great - very professional. Definitely a great restaurant and we will be back.

    The Emperor's New Vittles

    I took my time to try Telepan and nade my first visit yesterday with a friend, pre-concert. The amuse bouche was awesome, and really raised my expectations for a great, memorable meal. We ordered the crab poppers to start and ordered a special appetizer, zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta cheese. Four miniature crabs were presnted and a fairly large plate of zucchini. Little did I know that the breading on both choices would be the same. Heavy breading on the fried items. The waiter might have told us had he been more professional. Little did I know that the dish was not just the blossoms as served in the South of France, Italy and various restaurants in America, They served the whole baby zucchini with the blossom attached, in the fried, heavy coating. And the zucchini was more than al dente, They were just plain hard. I ordered a sirloin and short rib dish as my entree. While it was acceptable for the sliced sirloin to be room temperature, which it was, rare as ordered and pretty luscious, the small filet, of short rib, the potato and the vegetable mousse were all cold. I flagged the maitre d' (I think his title was something like "Client Services Host") and sent the dish back, while my friend continued to eat his meal. I received the dish back with the statement "You know, the meat is cold because you ordered it rare" never acknowledging that the rest of the dish was cold and not extending an apology. Once food is reheated, it is never what it could have been. It was just disappointing.
