    Keeps getting better...

    Been dining here since they opened, and it keeps getting better! Menu is constantly changing so diners don't get bored - yellowtail sashimi is out of this world, had the sea scallops the other night as well usually have a hard time getting through more than two, inhaled all four of Chef Telepan's parsley encrusted variety. New faces around the restaurant bring a great new energy, especially at the door. Keep doing what you guys are doing!

    Lovely evening!

    I usually don't write things about restaurants, but we were so well treated and the experience so sublime, I just had to chime in! I made a reservation for my husband's birthday and we were treated royally from the moment we arrived. The food was so interesting and delicious, and we both shared everything. The nice touch was a decorated plate with a candle which was brought for dessert, so thoughtful. We loved the quiet room and it all seemed so elegant. Thank you, Telepan.....

    Live in the neigborhood,have been a regular from the first week. Place gets better and better. Love the variety of things on the menu,easy to eat there a few times a month.Always something new and fresh. Chef is very friendly and there are some new faces at the door,who go out of there way to please.Tried some of the new trendy places on the upper westside,but always find my way back for a great consistent meal.

    Lost the lustre

    When this place opened 2 years ago, it had a grown-up atmosphere, a charming front of house staff that always remembered you, and food that surpassed most of the UWS mediocrity. I went several times... really liked the vibe. What a difference 2 years makes! At first, I thought it was just an off-night, but after 2 more recent visits, I realized that the downward spiral wasn't just a fluke. There seems to have been a turnover in staff (disappointingly so) and the quality of the food has deteriorated. The eponymous chef wasn't anywhere to be found the last 3 times, either. What gives? It's too expensive for this sort of carelessness. I hope they get it together soon. We needed them in the neighborhood!

    Wonderful UWS Gem!

    Went here last weekend and were wonderfully surprised by just how good everything was. After reading some of the reviews here, we were a little concerned, but the food and service were top notch. We chose to do the four-course tasting and the fact that you get to choose the dishes yourself, rather than have the chef choose them, was a refreshing change. Every dish was well uted and featured fresh ingredients. Our server couldn't have been more helpful and accomodating. He walked us through all the dishes and seemed very knowledgeable. We were directed to some interesting wines by the rather quirky-looking sommelier, who turned out to be charming by-the-way, and were very pleased with his suggestions. We can't wait to go back with friends!

    better than ever

    Had dinner last night at Telepan. Have not been there for a few months, it was better than ever,winter additions were delish! Loved the Califlower and black pepper noodles,the scallop dish was like to DIE for, some new faces at the desk, think it is an improvement, the old guy a little up tight. We made a reservation for next week on the way out.

    Good food, poor service

    Been here for brunch a few times. Always great food, very creative and fresh, Recently had brunch with a party of 7. Had to reserve table for noon since they said there was no availability before then, but when we arrived at the restaurant it was nearly empty. It took five minutes for the host to get off the phone so he could seat us. He gave us a weird table tucked into a back corner. Our waiter took our drinks order then disappeared for maybe 20 minutes, came by and asked us to "give him a couple minutes", then reappeared 10 minutes later. He forced us to order from right to left down the table, wouldn't let ladies order first. First course plates were served after guests in table next to us (that arrived way after us) got their main course. The servers mixed up which dish went to correct guest (for both courses). We subsequently waited 20 minutes for them to pick up plates from first course. We received no coffee refills despite our requests. By the time second course arrived, we'd been sitting there for 1.5 hours. Finally served the second course and again had to wait a considerable amount of time before the waiter came by to drop off the check. I read that the waitstaff has to surrender a high percentage of their tips to the management, which explains their lack of motivation to get good tips. Sad that the food is so wonderful and the service so poor.
