After dining at Telepan Local last night, I went back to read the NYT review, which I remembered as being somewhat tepid. Was it ever (one star, lots of snark)! And was it ever wrong. Our meal was completely delightful, every dish inventive and delicious. We started with three large heirloom tomato slices, served with a scattering of cooked clams and a delicious dressing that involved reduced clam broth. The large tangle of fried watercress was amazing in its tempura crust, and the lamb sliders were succulent and perfectly seasoned. The service is also excellent. I will admit that value is not the point here, since our four small plates ran us $80 (including one cocktail and one glass of wine). But if you are in the high-end market for Mr. Telepan's always-wonderful food, you should really give the restaurant a try.
