teany is sooooo lovely...
what a nice place... cheap, laid back, tasty, nice people, and especially nice in the day, when no one is there.

awesome food, horrifying service
the food, the desserts, the teas are all incredible. simple, easy, and filling, i would eat here every day if it wasnt for the slow, unattentive service. every time i've been here i've had to wait at least 20-30 min for someone to take my order (let alone remember to give me a menu). and i've watched my food sit on the counter for 20-30 min before the waiter realized it was there. i have the same experience everytime -- it's pretty disgraceful. get better servers! and this place would be awesome.

teany could not have been better!
I came to teany for the first time this past weekend with my wife and 7 year old, after hearing mixed reviews about it for a while. I can tell you right now, i would come back every day if i lived in the neighborhood! It wasn't at all crowded, we were seated immediately. The service was EXCELLENT, very very friendly, prompt, attentive, and helpful with finding things my child would like. My wife and i both had the gazpacho with avocado and mango, it was the most different and refreshing gazpacho we've ever had. My daughter got a chicken salad sandwich made with the best fake chicken salad i've ever experienced. The turkey club and goat cheese salad that my wife and i split were both insanely delicious, with an excellent dressing on the side. my daughter got a lavender lemonade, again, different and wonderful, and my wife and i split a lime ricky that brought me back to my youth, and a white sangria with fresh berries, served in a pint glass, leaving both my wife and i with a pleasant buzz :-). we didn't actually try the tea, it was pretty hot out, and we split only one of their truly amazing looking desserts, the carrot cake, vegan and unbelievable. they don't make their own desserts, so they were vague on the ingredients besides them being totally vegan, so i would imagine they aren't too healthy, but it was totally worth it for a treat. That carrot cake blew my mind, and the people next to us were all eating different cakes and couldn't stop talking how great they all were. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the area, and try their tea and another one of their incredible desserts. I would suggest it for vegans, vegetarians, and even meat eaters, i think everyone could find something at teany they would like.

tea heaven
My boyfriend and I visited teany after a disappointing dinner at Kate's Joint and it definitely made up for our previous meal! Although my coconut cupcake and my boyfriend's slice of lemon lime cake came a good 15 or 20 minutes after our bevarages arrived, the waiter promptly apologized about a mix-up that occured and brought out our delicious treats. When we first walked in, we were warmly welcomed by our waiter and felt like old regulars, even though this was our first visit. The inside was packed but the outside seats were completely empty so we sat out there. Soon after we arrived, almost every seat inside and out was taken and it got quite busy so this is when our order may have gotten mixed up. Both the cupcake and cake, which are both vegan, were very moist and sweet, though not sickeningly so. I am always on the lookout for good coconut cupcakes--vegan or not--and I was very pleased. I drank a big cup of the teanychino, which was slighly sweet with lovely hints of vanilla and almond. SO delicious and satisfying. It could almost have been a meal in and of itself! Although I didn't try the other menu items, the salads I saw other patrons eating looked appetizing. The decor was great. I especially loved the candles built into the brick and the pictures of fostered, rescued farm animals in the bathroom was great to look at. As a tea freak, I would definitely return since teany has 98 varieties of it. All in all, a great way to pass an early summer night.

Great place to drag a vegan
If you want to grab a quick vegan bite before going out to bar(s) in the LES, this is a decent place. Wide selection of teas and deserts. Waitstaff aren't very attentive.

Great tea, poor food and poor service
I love the tea here and would come back for the tea when I have the time. I say that because if you do not have several hours do not go- due to the small space you may have a wait (and pity the people in the chairs by the line with people glaring at you to hurry up). However the food is subpar especially for the price. The salads come with weak tasting dressing and "mock" meat that is frighteningly bad. The scones are ok. The berry cheesecake has a very strange crust- blech. The strawberry shortcake was dry. The bread on the sandwiches is the soft kind- what about some good ciabatta? If I could have a good hearty grilled veg sandwich on some good bread with that tea it would be worth it despite the slow waitstaff. (I forgot to mention that those waiters have taken others before me more than once!) Try it if you're in town for the tea but try to get it to go. If you're hungry, there are so many other places in the LES for food- even for veggies.

What a Great Find
If you love tea, hot or cold, and freshly prepared vegetarian food then this is a place you have to visit. I had an exotic hot tea with a frsh goat chesse and artichoke salad. Wow! That was nicely prepared and delicious to eat. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. I look forward to going back soon. Also if you can find their bottled teas in the supermarket buy them. They are very good too!
