Tavern On Jane = quaint...
Ate here Friday September 30, 2011. We went here because we got a deal for a discount 50%off /up to $25.00 off check. We are glad we did! It is a relatively small, well kept good looking place. There is a fireplace in a back alcove dinning area (seems great for a group/party/gathering). There are 2 waitstaff and a busboy - due to the size and flow design of the room, but all help out. Our waiter was a nice person. The discount says "18% gratuity may be added to check" - it was, we gave him 20%! The food selection and quality for what is described as a "tavern" is excellent. Our waiter recommended a wine better than the selection we were thinking of at the same price when asked to help with our possibly choice. He actually had us sample the choices before agreeing to buy. I had a half a roasted chicken and switched white rice for potatoes and broccoli. It was very moist and flavorful chicken. My wife had a great fish and chips dinner with excellent tartar sauce. A real taste of England!! The vibe is a mix of Cheers and a New England type eatery. The exposed brick walls and the butcher paper on the tables with a glass of crayons to doodle with are a nice touch. If we lived in the neighborhood this would definitely be "our neighborhood go to place". We told our waiter who works Wednesday - Friday that we will see us again.

Best fish & chips in the village
Tavern on Jane makes the best Beer Battered Fish & Chips we've ever had, and we've tried them from every restaurant that serves them. The fish is light and fresh , the batter puffy and crisp and it's not greasy. The fries are excellent. as is the cole slaw. Also deserving of an award is Lillian's Cobb Salad. No one makes it better. Ample, creative and delicious. After having this Cobb Salad, eating it elsewhere will make you feel cheated. The delivery is swift. The food arrives hot and the delivery men are cheerful. They only deliver lunch, Monday through Friday, and we wish they'd increase their hours. Excellent restaurant who clearly cares very much about serving beautifully prepared fresh food.

The Best French Fries!
Had dinner there for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. Service was outstanding; if our server was busy, another offered to help without us even asking -- the way it should be! It was a very busy Thursday night but we always got ample attention from the staff. The prime rib was surprisingly good and not too fatty. The best part was the fries, though -- they were incredibly delicious! I would go back again in a heartbeat!

meh
Very cute and cozy. Came in on a very cold winter day. Seems like the type of place where people would remember you. Friendly staff. But the food was just ok. Got the Caesar salad - good, the shrimp kabobs - just ok, rice was bland. and the grilled chicken ciabatta sandwich had a lot of fat on it, it was just ... 0k. had a good cocktail though! food was way overpriced. its a bar. and it wasnt alll that.

You gotta go where everybody knows your name!
I was looking for cozy places in The Village to go to dinner with a good friend this past Thurs. 12.17. A fireplace was a prerequisite as the weather had recently turned frigid. Confident of Menupages.com's search features, I found Tavern On Jane. I was hooked at first glance. The website pictures do not do it justice. It is a lovely old building with brick and a great wooden bar. If you are not familiar with this part of The West Village, the neighborhood looks like you have stepped back in time before cars and electricity with a warmth and charm that reminded me of something out of Dickens, or Diagon Alley. When we got there around 6 PM we were immediately greeted and seated with an apology up front for a holiday party which would crowd the place shortly. The service was attentive, the food sturdy, the holiday lights were enchanting and the atmosphere was like a rustic "Cheers". Everyone knew everyone and my friend and I felt very much at home. I will be back...frequently...
