One of the best sushi restaurants ever. Who cares if it is cramped and simple in decor? As long as I can get Omakase any time I am in town, I would sit on a parkbench in there. It is one of the places we always go when we are back home in Brooklyn. Super fresh fish, good service---try the horse mackerel and you will never go anywhere else.

Taro is the only one of two real Japanese -owned restaurants I know of in Park Slope, the other being Tamari. You will not find exotic fusion sushi here, just the standard sushi combos but they are fantastic. Their fish is always fresh and the rice is often times slightly warm, an indication that it's just recently been cooked. Their menu is probably the most authentic Japanese menu I've seen in Brooklyn - it has a lot of the standards my favorite restaurants back in Tokyo also serve. Is this place ideal for a date? That depends - is your date more concerned with ambiance, designer food, and sexy cocktails or does he/she place more importance on food quality and authenticity? Is your date is the latter, then you'll surely win points by bringing him/her to Taro. One last thing, the place is rather cozy so large parties (8+) might have a hard time being seated all together - I'm not sure if they take reservations, I kinda doubt it.

i've had better. the rolls only come with fish inside. soicy tuna was not spicy on top of that the rolls looked like baby food. only plus was the good chicken teriyaki and shumai. there are other places better to spend your money

This is by far the best sushi in brooklyn. The fish is always so fresh and the prices are amazing!!

Atmosphere isn't great but the food is by far the best sushi in Brooklyn and I have been to every single sushi place worth going to in Brooklyn. It rivals most place in Manhattan as well. I highly recommend both Taro and Geido which is across the street.

I don't know what the hype is about this place. I walked in for dinner and it smelled like bad fish! If a sushi joint smells like fish, the fish is not fresh. The yellowtail and salmon were mushy...the toro was an awkward neon pink (probably from food coloring to make the fish appear fresh), and the wasabi was the cheap powder-water form. I would not go on a date here. Beware novice or new sushi eaters!=you probably wouldn't eat sushi again. Service was good, and the chefs seemed to know what they were doing. The quality is CHEAP!

It's true, the food is delicious, fresh and inexpensive at this place. It's worth the few extra blocks walk for me from the other decent, popular sushi places in Park Slope. The reviews would have had me to believe that the place itself was going to be scary. I expected it to look like a Chinese takeout place. It's cute enough not to be scary. It has about 10 tables and a small sushi bar. They make an effort on a low scale. I went at an off time during the week, so it was dead. They were preparing MANY take out orders, but I got a table for myself and wasn't rushed out.
