Taqueria y Fonda la Mexicana

They have the freshest vegetables-fantastic for vegetarians. Much better fare than any other Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood. Try the spinach queso fundido and cheese tamale--you won't be disappointed. Also, their avocado salsa is delicious.

I don't know if I could possibly get enough of the cheese tortas. I have tried quite a bit on the menu, all of which has been good, but the cheese tortas are a fixation.

My food took an hour and 45 minutes to arrive! I'm a pretty patient person, but that was bordering on ridiculous, especially because they told me 20 minutes. The chicken tacos were pretty good, but definitely stay away from the chips- they were dripping with oil.

I live in the neighborhood, and it took a few tries to find something that I liked. Once I discovered the Enchiladas de Rojo with Chicken, I had to restrain myself from ordering it EVERY night. The chicken is tender, the sauce is an incredibly tasty mole with hints of chocolate, cinnamon and spices, and the beans and rice are heavenly with a pinch of salt. The tacos are good as well, simply tasty pork or chicken with some spices and guac. The price is unbeatable and they arrive quickly with no messed up orders.

... I remember the amazing tortas I used to get delivered less than a year ago. Something happened and now I can't get anything from these guys that isn't disappointing, no matter what or when I order. Twice now they didn't have what I wanted and simply substituted with something I didn't, without even asking me.

The food is great. But they REFUSE to NOT cover everything with cilantro. If you ask them to not put cilantro on your food, they will anyway. So if you can tolerate cilantro, then eat here. If you can't, then fuhgeddaboutit.

Adding this to my brief list of authentic Mexican restaurants.
