pretty good - a tad disappointing
Was here for my anniversary a week ago, and most likely wont return. Very delicious cocktails (pomegranate, etc.), fun atmosphere, but the food was just so-so for the price. I was expecting more for the hype....

Not recommended
Very rude service. They come and clean our table one second after we finish each meal! They were obviously rushing us to go away... The atmosphere is hip if it's 15 years ago... The food is not good enough for that price.

Go for a drink and an appetizer
I took my gf there last week, I had a reservation for 9 and I arrived there at 8.50. They gave me a beeper, like I am on call in the hospital and asked me to wait at the bar. I had to wait for an hour and then we got seated. In the meantime we had 2-3 cocktails each and lots of fun so I don't think we cared so much about food. The lobster wantons were very good, the sea bass was ok, but overall doesn't worth the $. The service was fine, I just think though that they make you sit at the bar for an hour so you spent more $ in drinks. Moreover, I had mentioned in the reservation that it was my girlfriends bday but they didn't bother doing something special. They didn't have to of course. I still tipped 20%, so the bill came up to $180 for 4 coctails, 2 appetizers and 2 main courses. I would return for a drink and maybe an appetizer in the bar.

Cheesey
I walked in and looked in the dining room, saw the buddha and just started laughing my ...... off. It was ridiculous. We got sat after waiting over a half hour later than our reservation. When I saw the way the hostess was handling others about why they weren't being sat on time (others came late for their tables was the explantation) I started laughing my ...... off again. (Boy, out of all the restaurants in NYC that take reservations, it seems like Tao has all the bad luck Everyone always comes late). Food was ok, service was weak and rude. I don't know what to say other than I am dumbfounded by how busy a place can be that is so utterly ridiculous when compared to other places like Pastis or Spice Market.

Great night out!
Very hip, loud, crowded, cool place - lived up to the hype. Place was packed - ate upstairs. Good service and excellent food. Sea Bass was excellent. No celebrity citing, though - disappointed.

fun, fun, fun
I don't know what section everyone else has been in, but Jeanette, our waitress was incredible, she made suggestions, joked with us, certainly did not ignore us and was friendly. The food was as delicious as you would expect (it was my boyfriend's first time, he was very pleased), this was my first time here for "pleasure" not "business" so I was in a different mindset. I'll definitely be back and I suggest the Chilean Sea Bass skewers and the Lobster and Crab dumplings to anyone looking for a great treat.
