    Amazing restaurant

Tao is amzing...the atmosphere and the service was very good...I go there all of the time and wait about 5 minutes for a table...the food is really good and worth the price....I do not know why a couple of people gave it a bad review because it is not bad at all...

    below average and awfully crowded

Except its nice ambiance and space, everthing else including the receptionists, the service and the food are certainly below average and do not live up to its hipe. Expect to wait for more than 20 min to be seated despite your reservation made ahead of time and put up with crowds and not necessarily the high end crowds as advertised

    Reservations count for nothing.

I made a reservation for a Wednesday evening at 9.30, upon arrival we were told we would have to wait 20 minutes. 40 minutes later with no apology we were seated. The lounge we waited in was very cramped and loud. Food was good, and the atmosphere/decor is lovely. Seems like the main problem is unapologetic staff, who feel that it is acceptable to make people wait a long time for their tables.

    Actually wasn't that bad!

Went to Tao on Fri night (at 7 pm) and contrary to some reviews, it actually wasn't that bad at all got seated after just 5-6 min of wait the waiter was really helpful fun atmosphere good cocktails. Not sure if the food is worth the $30 average price tag (I think 23-25 is a more appropriate range for what we had), but the desserts are really good (LOVED chocolate fried wontons). And Chai was really good too - a dessert in and of itself, almost. The place is most definitely designed for big groups if it is just the two of you, then you get seated upstairs near the wall which is not altogether bad, but kinda misses the point of being in a place with a huge budda cause you can't see it from there. If you get lucky (or ask, I guess), then they also have tables for two on the main floor and they looked good. But again, most of the space is occupied by big tables for large groups (6-10).

    loved it

I'm surprised by all the disappointed reviews people seem to have of TAO, this is by far my favorite place in the city. If you can get past that many of the customers are tourists and just enjoy the atmosphere it is worth the wait!! Try the chilean sea bass and you will not be disappointed! I promise!

    Great Food Long Wait

I've been to Tao NUMEROUS times. You should always be prepared to wait ATLEAST a half hour for a table. You also need to make reservations 2 weeks in advance. Unless you have alot of patients do NOT go at dinner time. I waited 2 hours for a table on my birthday last week. They said it was a half hour... My reservations were for 8pm. We arrived at 7:45 and did not sit down to eat until 9:30pm. I will never go there again. But the fortune cookie dessert is REALLY good. I just think they need to learn how to make and take reservations.
