Love this place!
I have been her 5 times and every time I come, I am seated promptly (within 15 minutes) and courteously. Warning: need reservation! The best dinners are the wasabi steak and the steak with the shiitake mushrooms, the tao-tini is great as well as the molten chocolate dessert with coconut gelato. The best seats are around the giant buddah, so if you can get them, consider yourself lucky! Oh, and I love the suggestive fortune cookies!

Too loud, even for 20 year olds!
We could not hear each other at a table for 2! I was deaf by the time we left. The food is great; but not worth going tone deaf!

Tao-licious
We had the restaurant week lunch special. There were four different entrees, four appetizers, four desserts, and jasmine fried rice. All excellent! Loved the Buddha and the koi. Even the bathroom was awesome. Loved it all. Recommended highly!

Deliciously Expensive
I went to Tao this past weekend and it was probably the best meal I've had in months! The Thai stuffed shrimp with garlic, lime and Thai chili sauce was amazing. If you simply want a nice steak with a little something extra, then I would suggest the Wasabi crusted Filet. If you prefer your steak with a lot of other flavors added then you should get the black pepper sizzled filet with udon noodles. It was almost more like a pasta dish with big pieces of filet in it. They were both extremely tender and very tasty. The only bad thing I would have to say about it it that it was very expensive. To put it in perspective, we went to the grocery store the next day and filled our cart to the top and still spent less on that then we did on one nights dinner at Tao. Then again this is New York.

Hummm
I'm from Montreal. After reading reviews on this site and tripadvisor, we decided to choose this restaurant to have an experience. First off, i took the drink specialty (it's red with raspberry) it was good.. After i took and appetizer called sunay chicken with peanut butter sauce (soooo good but after i wasn't hungry)! After I took the sea bass fish (mmm so tender I wanted more..) I also tried - i don't know the name - but it's rice with salmon and a strong sauce with ginger. I finished with a cold sake (i forgot to mention hot), it was strong. About the decor: it looks bigger on the web then in reality. Yes it's big and 2 floors but not as expected. The music chosen didn't reflect the spirit of the restaurant (why big dance music?)... I was expecting japenese music! The budda is huge, the atmosphere great. And there was a lot of people. Even if it costs me 80$us it was worth the price... and i definitely suggest trying this place... I hope this review helped.

Unique atmosphere
The fusion food is very good, and the prix fixe lunch is great value -- try the chocolate wonton with raspberry glaze.

Great Food, Loud Atmosphere
Do not go to TAO on a Friday Night! It is too loud, the music is ok. The food is great! I would rather go to TAO on a weeknight instead of a weekend. I do reccomend their food. Their sushi is ok.
