Great!
I loved everything about this place -the only negative was that there were only 3 stalls in the ladies room. Food, ambiance, presentation, service all wonderful!

Give and Take
It was a bit too noisy, but the sea bass was the best I've ever had.

Average food!
Here are my impressions of Tao: Decoration and ambiance is nice, though a bit large for my taste. Mix crowd of locals and tourists. Good service. Drinks were very well prepared. Food totally average. If what you’re looking for is good food, there are so many other better restaurants in NYC. I recommend this place for people who like big chain restaurants, or else to go only for a drink at the bar!

All Hype, No Humility
Granted, the atmosphere at Tao is enjoyable. Go for drinks instead if you want to say you've been there. After finally ending a 3 hour meal that should have only taken an hour and a half, the manager argued with my friends and I that our dessert surely could not have taken 40 minutes to come out. My advice to you all, skip this restaurant!

Disappointed
I was at Tao for dinner last week and I was really disappointed. The place is very crowded (seems as if they have as many tables as possible to serve a maximum of people). My friends' food seemed to be good, they had some chicken and fish dishes, and the desserts were delicious. But for me as a vegetarian there was exactly one dish to order (how can they have a giant buddha statue and offer not more than one vegetarian dish?) and it was just steamed vegetables, without any seasoning. The other dishes on the menu that sound vegetarian are always with chicken or ham. The sencha tee we ordered was already bitter when they brought the pot to our table and the waitress said, we should let it steep for some more minutes. The cappuccino I ordered with my dessert was tepid. Somehow the whole place seems to be fake and in New York you can get much better food for less money.

Not bad but not great..
Went here for my birthday on a wednseday night. The restaurant is beautiful. However, for some reason I expected more and can't quite put my finger on what was wrong. The food selection was nothing special your average pan asian food (dumplings, sushi etc.) The food was delicious but I left starving even though the two of us shared three appetizers an entree each and dessert each. The service itself was ok, but very unpersonable. With what I've heard about the place I expected a more fun and exciting atmosphere but instead it we felt rushed andleft wanting more (the check came in the middle of dessert without asking for it). I'm in the middle about this place.

Great place to visit
The food is great, the atmosphere is fun & very social. I definitely recommend this place to anybody. The price is reasonable I spent about $160 for 3 people including drinks, entree, and dessert.
