Best salmon in town; great prix fixe
If you have strictly one hour only for lunch, you may want to forego Tao--but go for dinner. We had to wait 20 minutes, though we had a reservation. The grilled salmon was the best I have ever eaten--perfect. Very slightly crunchy on the outside, no unnecessary oil, hot, fragrant, tender, and melt-in-your-mouth yummy. The chicken appetizer on a stick--seems everyone is serving those these days--didn't thrill me; it was a little underdone for my "nuke everything" taste, but the sauce was interesting. Dessert was to die for, though we had to ask them to pack it up so we could bring it back to the office! The decor is stunning (love the Big Buddha protecting the diners). The patrons are on the loud side, but it's fun, busy, and delicious. If you don't mind having to raise your voice a little to speak to your dining companions, definitely go.

Decent
Some friends & I wanted to eat at a super trendy restaurant and I have heard some great things about Tao so we decided on there. One thing that really irked me was that I made a reservation for 2 at 10:00 & we got there right on time. We ended up waiting an extra 15-20 minutes for our table. Annoying! We expected it to be loud but not as loud as it really was. My friends & I were yelling just to be heard. I ordered the Black Pepper Sizzled Filet Mignon with Udon Noodles, it was delicious but just a little too salty. Another friend ordered the Kung Pao chicken & that too was a little salty. For dessert we had the Fuji Apple Springroll which was amazing..absolutely delicious. All in all, it wasn't a spectacular place but I would go back..mostly for desserts.

Go weeknights
This is a fun place if u dig the social scene. The atmosphere is really laid back. Noise level isnt too high on weeknights. No signs of kids either. It isnt fine dining, just fun dining. However, for the price, you're not too far from it either. The Kobe Ribeye was delicious as so was the kobe shabu and kobe sashimi. I also recommend the Chilean sea bass and grilled rare yellowfin tuna, Sushi was good but wasnt its strong point. I dont recommend the spring rolls (taste like chinatown dim sum, nothing spectular), XO Shrimp (better in chinatown), thai fish hot pot (too salty), and the wasabi crusted filet mignon (too dry in comparison to the kobe). Pad Thai wasn't outstanding, just boring. For dessert we had the fortune cookie which is OK. They should replace the mousse with ice cream instead as it was so heavy and rich. If you work hard for your money I dont recommend coming here, however if you got cash to burn this is the place for you.

Depends on what you're looking for
If you are looking for a lively lounge scene, Tao totally works. unfortunatly dinner and conversation won't happen unless you arrive early, as in seated around 6. there'll be some time before it starts getting crowded so you can still hear ppl at your table. food was above average but for a restaurant like Tao (semi-expensive, very very hyped up), it disappoints. i didn't love anything. there's nothing i would go back for. it was one of those "been there done that" places. interior is fantastic, love the ambiance. all dumplings and budda chicken are great. SKIP seaweed salad

Drinks at the Bar
We enjoyed drinks at the bar on Monday, 21.08.06. The service was good, with a very friendly & helpfuul bar man offering to take our photograph infront of the enormous buddha featured in Tao. Very atmospheric & trendy. Definitely worh a visit !!!

Not bad
Not sure what the deal is here, I think this place is sooo 2003. Took clients to dinner last nite. Most of the people were tourists (several child sightings) – all the action was at the bar. More importantly the food was average, not great, not bad- just average. Here is the rundown: Apps: Thai Chile stuffed shrimp – good, interesting, not great – what the heck is that stuffing?. Glazed pork – bland, a bit dry, had better in Chinatown at any place where they hang meat on sticks in the window. Tuna Tartar – disappointing, not much flavor, could have used a drop of sesame oil and soy, expected more from this dish. Mains: Mizo glazed stripped bass over greens. I asked about mizo soaked black cod (ala Nobu) and was directed to this as an equal. The portion was tiny, BUT the flavor delivered. Sweet n salty over nice greens. Wasabi crusted Fillet Mignon: pedestrian – a decent cut of steak, cooked perfectly, but it was coated with some kind of bread crump topping. No wasabi flavor. Dessert – chocolate parfait. AWESOME, rich but not too rich to eat the whole thing. 4 or 5 different flavors/types of chocolate. I recommend this. Service : Impeccable, we had a fantastic waiter who was pleasant, informed and a true gentleman. Total bill for 2 - $190 w/ drinks. I would not go again. Not bad, just not great.
