    Mediocre service!

The service was poor! Very pricy and the food was not worth a single penny. Poor quality in the cut of meat. Waiter was rude and not responsive. The atmosphere made up for the lack of service. This is a good spot for drinks and thats it@

    Tao used to be good

The restaurant is now a complete tourist and b&t trap. The food hasn't changed in 7 years and service is worse then ever. Tao used to attract gorgeaus people, now it's lame as can be. You can get better dumplings elsewhere for a third the price. I'll never go back to Tao, there are so many cooler places in the city.

not so impressive w/ the food and price

I went with my boyfriend to check this place out. It looked pretty nice with the asian theme. We ordered jumbo shrimp tempura which tasted like dough, no flavor at all; satay seabass which was pretty good; pork spring rolls were ok, not too impressive; salmon sashimi were pretty fresh I must say; wasabi crusted filet mignon which we did not even finish because it tasted so bad. My boyfriend is a steaklover but he's even willing to toss it away. He also ordered shrimp fried rice, which was just like whatevers, we could probably get better tasting fried rice for cheaper price somewhere else. For dessert, we ordered the molten chocolate cake, it was alright. Overall, I would say that the food at this place is overpriced. If you want decent Chinese/Japanese food, go to Chinatown/the Village to get your moneys worth. With the amount of money we spent there, we could've had a feast in any restaurants in Chinatown. But if money is not your issue and you are not so picky about food, you can go to that place just for the view and the downstair bar seems to be a pretty cool place to hangout.

    Good Environment...everything else SO-SO

So, this place is real nice with it's environment. However, I felt like I was eatting in a club. If you like trendy, LOUD techno-music places where u can't fully hear your buddies, this place works. This is a cool date place but I wouldn't come here if you want something cozy and laid-back. We made reservations for 11 and didn't get seated until 12!!! However, it was cool to see people eat these giant fortune cookies. The ONLY good food I liked here was the sea bass that was on the small plates list; everything else was WAY OVERHYPED and I wasn't impressed by the food @ all. I think we just happen 2 get a bad server but our waiter was not friendly @ all. The only time we saw him was when he took our orders and delivered the food. Besides coming for the environment, I think this place is WAY not worth thee price and the food is just alright...not worth the prices though.

    Great scene/food! Parfait no more..

We all miss the Chocolate Parfait, Please bring it back! Desserts now are simply average and nothing special. The Fortune Cookie with the mouse is good but we really miss the parfait! As for the food, it's good. A little pricey, but it's worth it for the scene. Skip the Kobe Beef....tastes like regular meat if you ask me. As for the apps- Must try the Crispy Tuna Sashima Roll. It's the best and nobody ever talks about it....MUST TRY! Go on Fri versus Sat. Fri is a more fun wild night. Get there after 9....Scene totally livens up!
