I have been to Tao twice now and honestly, I don't know why I returned. I'm an optimist I suppose. The service is poor, as we waited 20 minutes just for a waitress to take our drink order. The food is just average (possibly below) and it's ridiculously overpriced for the portion and quality. I would search elsewhere.

Poor service
Our experience was an episode out of the Soprano's. After eating super hot chili's, we asked for another dish. When the bill arrived, we asked why the appetizer was not removed from the bill. Instead of making an adjustment, they sent over a 300 lb bouncer who threatened to call the police and who told us not to come back to Tao.

I went to Tao recently expecting to have a nice dinner with my family. The first 2 things we ordered were out of stock... great. The waiter then left our table to give us a moment to reevaluate the menu, however it was several minutes until he returned. We specifically asked if something was spicy, we were told no... it was. I ordered the tuna appetizer roll and told them no wasabi...there was. After a few more incidents, we demanded to speak to someone. The man who came over was less than understanding, and in many ways rude. I will absolutely never return here and I recommend you do not waste your money. There are many great restaurants in New York. This is NOT one of them.

The best place on earth!
Since the inception, Tao is consistently amazing. The decor, ambiance and food is incredible. Just here for dim sum Sunday brunch. Top notch service!

Lame
Not worth it at all. Very touristy and cheesey and the food just average. There are a million other better places. The service was poor and not accomodationg at all.

Good only for drinks (eat somewhere else)
I was terribly disappointed with this restaurant. The ambiance is excellent, drinks and crowd are good. Food is terrible quality -- I would compare it to a higher end PF Changs. You know something is wrong when you order your food and it comes out in less than 5 minutes! We ordered 7 appetizers and it came out in less time than it took for our wine to come! Same with the main courses. I don't mind paying for food but you expect some TL&C and quality with the price. Tao does not deserve to be in NYC -- gives a bad rep to Asian restaurants. Spend your money in restaurants that are worth the price. This one is only fit for Vegas.

Delicious and fun
Loved the food. Didn't have one bad dish and considering the awesome atmosphere, well worth the price. Perfect spot for a fun night out with friends when you want to eat well!
