    Very Good But With Problems

I've been here a total of three times. I received excellent food and good service on the first two trips. The third and most recent time the food quality seriously declined, maybe it had to do with the fact that I only ordered vegetarian dishes. Furthermore, the service was mediocre, the waiters did not seem to know what they were doing. I still recommend Tamarind with a caveat to stay away from the vegetarian dishes. Though I must say, the sea bass was excellent.

    Nice atmosphere and food...

While not a lush, i must recommend the Tamarind Cosmo straight off-it was perfectly made, strong enough to get a buzz after a couple, and very tasty...sure, it meant i couldn't taste the food as well, but hey :-) The atmosphere was quite nice, not very intimate, but nice for a group gathering. Good service, and did i mention the specialty drink?

    Dynamic Indian cuisine

The dining experience was exceptional! The atmosphere was pleasant. The owner greeted my party and came around toward the end of the meal to ask how we enjoyed thefood. All too often, therestaurants bathroom can be a real turn off. However, at Tamarind the oposite is true! The bathroom was wonderfuly frangrant and very cleanly. I had the Shrimp Moiley, while good it tasted more like Thai, than Indian. The Malai Halibut was exceptional and deserving of it's award winning status. The tandoori mixed grill had a wonderful assortment of chicken and lamb Although the shrimp wasn't too visible. This dish unlike the others comes with a basket of nan, which was shared among the three us, we had 2orders of basmati rice, but since we had nan1wouldhave been plenty. The Cr?me brulee was rich, creamy and wonderful. All three of us in my party enjoyed this dessert and the Indian chai was fragrantly spiced. This was an exceptional dining experience. A must for fine Indian cuisine.

    Great Food, so-so Service

Had reservations for a Wednesday night. They seated us right away, but it was right in front of the bar which was crowded a bit uncomfortable. Food was delicious - much lighter than other Indian food, but the service was not great. I had to ask for my first drink order twice, the 2nd drink never came (but the server did make sure he added it to the bill, which I had to have them remove!) and only got my coffee after we asked another server for it a 2nd time.

    Great Indian Food

I had dinner here recenty and was very pleased with the atmosphere and the attentive service. I had the tandoori salmon and it was excellent! The salmon was so moist, it just melted in my mouth and the flavors of the spices blended so well. I also had the Tamarind salad and the tamarind nan bread. The salad was refreshing with the mangos and the grapes and the light dressing. The tamarind nan was very good; inside the bread was a sweetly spiced fruity and nutty paste-like mixture tthat made the bread very interesting and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the place for a delightful Indian dinner.

For Indian Food Go No Further

Though this restaurant is admittedly a "fusion type" restaurant, it retains true Indian flavors. There are few authentic Indian restaurants in Manhattan, and here is a gem! The atmosphere and staff are fabulous... For a great treat, try the tea room adjacent to the main restaurant. The teas and sandwiches are delightful!
