    High Quality Food and Atmosphere

Went here for our anniversary dinner. Enjoyed a romantic ambience. Had a terrific experience. The Halibut was phenomenal! Loved the open kitchen . . .

    Love!

I'm both Indian and a foodie and I adore Tamarind. The food is well-cooked. The masalas are well-blended and hit the right notes. The service is fabulously attentive and professional AND the lighting is flattering. What more could you want?

    Amazing!!

This was my first time eating here, which was absolutely amazing. The food came out hot, the service was perfect and the wine list was fantastic! Not to mention, that the food had more flavor and originality then any Indian restaurant ever! Excellent choice for a business dinner to a couples romantic dinner. Well done management and chef! My personal favorite!

    Fantastic Grilled meats and Seafood

We had dinner on March 28, 2007.The fixed dinners of grilled meats and seafood platters were just fantastic, in taste , appearance and freshness. Chef used different marinades for different kinds of fish and meats served on the platter and each one tasted very delicious. The amount of spices were just enough to tickle the pallate for excitement and anticipation. The food was tastefully served with lots of attention by the servers and provided with appropriate chutneys. The nan and dal were fresh and tasty too. We ordered two appetizers-Lucknow bhaji and palak tikya, both were good. The kulfi for dessert was excellent but rusmalai, I won't order again. We consumed a bottle of Malbec from Argentina which was a perfect match with the food. The service was very attentive and personal. I specially liked the supervision and vigil by the two top managers of Tamarind, who were constantly hovering around the dining room, watching and whispering to wait staff, gauging customers' reactions and stopping at every table . Soon, the dining room was full and so the noise level to talk to customers. We will definetly return to this place, if they maintain the level of excellence that we experienced. The fixed plate dinners are the best deals for those who do not fully understand, how to order the Indian dishes, without being disappointed.

    Not recommended

The only reason I can gather for why this place has a good reputation is that the staff are attentive and provide little extras like hand towels. The food is pricey and average in presentation and taste. The portions are also small. Go to Curry in Hurry or Chennai Garden and you will pay at least half the price for a much better meal.

    One of my favorites

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is far, far, far from bland. Anything I've ever ordered has been just delicious. The service has always been excellent! Anyone I know who has not been to Tamarind I take there because I know they will love it too. I had to laugh about the review with the guy who ordered the lobster "marsala" I'm sure that it was lobster masala that he ordered and he was the one who was confused, not the waiter. I highly reccomend this restaurant if you are a lover of Indian food with a twist and a lover of good quality food. It's well worth the cost. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, there is a great selection of wines and you can often see a celebrity here and there as well.

    Very bland food, good service

I was very impressed with the service but unfortunately the food was very and I mean very bland... In the end I found myself missing the little indian places on 6th st that are a fraction of the cost. I won't be going back as there is better indian food for cheaper at other places.
