tamarind is one of the few restaurants that my wife & i always walk out thinking "why has it been so long since our last visit?" in our opinion it's definitely worthy of 3 stars (ny times). perhaps after slumdog millionaire it too will get it's overdue recognition. btw, we like tabla too.

Stopped in for lunch on Sunday and based on our experience I disagree with the previous review about pushy waiters. I will say that i was surprised that there were so many waiters there during lunch - they outnumbered the occupied tables and we found that someone different took our orders, brought our food, checked on us, refilled drinks, etc. each time. I found them to be very attentive but not pushy. They were all very knowledgeable about the menu. We were greeted upon arrival and thanked when we left. The food was very good. Everything cooked fresh. Had the sole with spicy green chili sauce and onions and a chicken dish wish I wish had been more spicy. Both were very good. Sodas are on the small side and cocktails tasted nice but weren't very strong. Glad we went but found the price was a little too high to go back regularly.

I completely disagree with the previous review I know the owners quite well been goin there for nearly 8 years now and never had a problem, I think the gentleman was looking for something more than just good food and service maybe a few free bees lol. The best Indian restautrant in the city. Dont miss the Sea Bass and the milagu curry is also outstanding.

I've been to the restaurant a while ago and had the same experience that most of the guests I send there have. The food is great, but the waiters have a condescending attitude/tone of voice towards customers. Even a couple of British people told me Indians don't have this kind of attitude in England. They also are very pushy, which makes one want to leave less tip at the end because the fact of being forced somehow. I hope they'll change their attitude so the service matches the food. Right now I've been looking for substitute restaurants for my guests.

I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back for another special occasion. Pricey but I didn't mind because everything was exceptional, especially the food. No wonder you can't walk in without a reservation.

Though the food at Tamarind was pricey, overall I thought it was worth it. Have gone there a couple times and loved it both times. Bhel poori - excellent appetizer Lamb Pasanda - really tasty especially if you like apricots Shrimp Moley - very good! Dessert platter - a huge disappointment, value-wise. They charge you $6.50 a person to cut one piece of a dessert and put it on one plate - it would have been cheaper to just order the desserts separately and you would have gotten more food!!! DON"T order this on the menu!
