An Indian restaurant that doesnt permit children below age 7 is pretty bizzare!! Went and had a good time at Tabla with our 6 year old :)

Best Indian in the city & the best Indian I've ever had. Stellar service & amazing flavors. Great sit-down place that has a beautiful, spacious room in the back (in many NYC restaurants, even nice ones, you're crammed against the table(s) next to you — not the case here! Plenty of room). And this location is incredibly close to the subway. I've been here at least 5 times, and it's consistently excellent. I love the Raj Kachori (chickpea) appetizer.

Nice room, nice service but $175.00 with tip for two having Indian food in New York City? The flavors were muddled and ambiguous, I'd rather relax on 6th Street.

We had a circular cushy booth for the five of us and we asked if we could share several entrees family style. They individually served us portions of each dish and left remainders at the table. service was attentive. Food was yummy. Though it was definitely not hot-spicy, it was a flavorful and a wonderful fusion of old and new. I would pass on the saag paneer--that is one dish that seems to be hit-or-miss wherever you go. A tad expensive, but in NYC, it's nice when you get what you paid for in quality, rather than greasy, unpalatable quantity. In terms of portion size, all the curries were served in the standard "a-la-carte" metal bowls i have seen at other NYC low-end "curry cafeterias". Will definitely go back once i save up.

I often have lunch here but not in the main restaurant, in the tea room next door. The tea room is better if youre a single diner or at lunchtime, the service is attentive and firendly since its much smaller. Usually, the same waiter is there every day, he recognizes regular customers and is generally very good. My wife is Indian and I am a big fan of Indian food and spices. Food at Tamarind is very good and I often try things out there that my wife makes when she has the time, but is often too busy to make for me. In summary I recomend the tea room for a solo lunch or with a small group. Everything Ive had has been good, and service is friendly.

went there today for NY restaurant week, don't bother going there for this ny city culinary event, 24 dollars for 2 shrimps as an apetizer a very small piece of fish with rice and an even smaller berry panacotta (not very indian) didn't get much for our money.

I cannot say enough about how amazing their food is. I have been here several times, and every time am amazed by the flavors. The lobster masala is to die for, their dahi aloo poori is the best I have ever had. The halibut is also phenomenal. This place is an absolute must for NYC foodies!
