boring
If you have ever eaten at a good downtown or east side Indian restaurant or if you have ever had take out at a decent Indian restaurant in London you will be disappointed. The food I ordered for delivery was not awful, far from it. The rest of my family really liked it and it was bland enough that my daughter didn't complain about the spiciness. But that's just it. The food had no life, no excitement no flair. It was just decent food that strongly resembled Indian food- but in reality was an impostor.

Great Find!
We took our kids for their first taste of Indian food here. We tried a large assortment of foods and everything we tried was excellent. The prices were reasonable and service excellent. We were the only customers in the restaurant (it was early for dinner in NYC), which made us nervous, but by the time we left, a lot of obviously local people had shown up - a good sign.

Best Price
Although there are other Indian restaurants in town, I am happy to have found this one close by. The prices are about average but the food is very good. I have always ordered and have received my order in a timely fashion. The food is always hot and ready to eat. Thank you Tamarind!

Best cheap Indian
My favorite Indian restaurant on the Upper West Side, and my favorite vindaloo in Manhattan. I've never had a bad dish here. The decor is minimal and tempting to make fun of, but, the staff is very attentive and kind. Delivery comes with 5-20 minutes.

Good food, great value
Chicken and lamb vindaloos are the most authentic I've had around here, but be ready to handle the spice! On the milder side, the lentils and the ginger lamb are really good too. For the food, their prices are very reasonable.

Yum!
Everything I've had here has been excellent. The saag paneer is really creamy and flavorful, with bits of tomato thrown in at the end just like i like it. The goat dishes are really good, too - they do a great job of cooking this sometimes difficult meat. It's also a great value - if you're hungry and like Indian food, definitely give it a try.

Shockingly subpar
I just ate lunch at Tamarind and walked away perplexed at how this place could still be in business. Even the papadams and chutney were flavorless. I ordered the ginger lamb from the grill and it was both mealy and tough (no, really!), making me suspect that it had been sitting around for a long, long while. The rice was just rice, and the vegetables might as well have not been there. I sat there looking at my meal, kicking myself for taking a chance on Tamarind. Never again!
