If I lived down by E6th Street, I'd have better options (obviously) but on the upper east side, this is my favorite Indian. Good solid food (the samosas are great) and the service is always friendly. Love it.

First off samosas were excellent! everything else went down hill from there. chicken tikka was mostly dark meat and it was not kabeb skewered. malai kofta balls were frozen.

I ordered chicken tikka masala which is supposed to be boneless white meat tandoori chicken, what I got delivered was very few "good" chunks of chicken and many fatty and boney cuts, the kind that feels not so great in your mouth, the worse part is that you can't see the chicken in the thick sauce, so when deeping the fork fishing for something good and getting some that bad that it need to be spitted out, that's not my pleasure. I wish they did it right, with clean white boneless prime cuts of chicken, but instead it looks like they use a mix of 70% bad not edible parts with maybe 30% good parts. I would not order again.

Stopped by for the first time for a late lunch. The prices looked reasonable enough. The chicken tikka masala was pretty good, and goes well with rice. The puri bread was fresh and hot. The chicken tandoori was a bit dry and bland for my taste, as I expected it to be somewhat different. The rice pudding was nothing special. In all, the food is ok, and the service was good. Probabally best for take out.

This week I had ordered out from this place twice and the food is ok. I use to order from a place in the 80's (Simla) but figured I'd give Tamarind a shot. Delivery was prompt but wished the food was better! Compared to other Indian restaurants I really did not like how they prepared certain dishes. My favorite dish is the chicken tikka muslam. Other places use yogurt for the sauce and this place sent chicken in tomato sauce! Another time I ordered the chicken tandori and I'm pretty sure that suppose to have yogurt sauce as well but no,they sent chicken only! Their appetizers weren't bad but as with the dishes I've had better!

This restaurant offered good, solid takeout in an area all but devoid of other options. It wasn't the absolute best Indian food I've had, but it was very good and tasty. The saag paneer was quite good, and the chicken makhni was very flavorful. It was as good as the other reviewers had said, and it went well with the garlic naan (which wasn't great on its own, but went very well with the makhni sauce). We got takeout, so I can't speak for the service or the decor, but the food was solid. The delivery was quick.
