Hit or Miss
The place is totally hit or miss. I have had some good experience with a very small part of their menu. However their lamb korma was one of the most awful things I have eaten in a long while- bad tasting lamb in a river of worse tasting and worst looking sauce. Lamb shashlik was mostly vegetables with a little lamb thrown in. I am still not sure which part of India they are trying to represent. I guess it depends on your taste but I would be averse to trying something new here at all.

Seriously the most disappointing Indian food I have ever had!! The chicken was WAY overdone! The naan was unappetizing! Don't even waste your time or money!

Light & Fresh, Friendly & Fair
On visits to the UES from my UWS base Tamarind has long been a trusted resource, performed well again last week. The Dehli chef and Nepali staff are friendly, competent and responsive. In a dozen visits only one entree was subpar. The Mughlai sauce is light and perfect for chicken. The Lamb Saag featured better quality (and more) meat than in many Indian restaurants, and as usual the sauce was not too buttery / creamy, unlike the overly rich sauces common in NYC Indians. The decor is warm without being showy, lighting is soft but adequate, acoustics very civilized. Best of all, prices are very reasonable (esp. wine) and include rice - no ripoff extra charge for rice proliferating among Indians.

Best Indian in the 90s!
I have lived in the neighborhood for 8 years and have been ordering from Tamarind at least a couple times a month for almost as long. The recipe they use for the Chicken Tikka Massalla is not like others-- it is less creamy and has more tomato and fenugreek leaves. But it is fresh and delicious. The appetizers and the naan and the lassies are all great too. I wouldn't say it's the best Indian in the city, but it is the best in this neighborhood. The service in the restaurant is fast and friendly, as is the delivery. I have never had a problem with any of it-- it's a consistently good place.

Good neighborhood place
The food is good, and reasonable. Spinach and cheese naan is out of this world. They have amazing service as well.

Great Service... Sub par food
The service was excellent. The food, however, was not. The pakoras were cold on the inside. The entrees were bland and tasteless. It was really unfortunate because the service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice.

Everything looked and tasted unappetizing. Chicken was dry and rubbery. Nan was raw. Total rip off.
