Great Place For A First Date

I was recently uptown and decided to give Talias steak house a try. It is located in the upper west side of Manhattan, in an obscure part of town near central park west. The waitstaff was pleasant, upbeat and polite, one of the first features you'd notice upon entering, as well as the sweet, romantic setting and vibe the place is clearly going for. The candle lighting was soothing and the acoustic musician was well read on soft romantic tunes, a great place for a first date.  I tried the spare ribs that were featured on the specials, and was surprised at the amount of food. The flavors were well thought out and the soup was a great starter! Im planning another trip back there with some friends next time, so we can try some of the desserts that were suggested to me, as well as the wide variety of steaks that i noticed on the menu as well.

Who gave this restaurant a good review?

We are from outside New York (way outside, we live in the South) and take our NY restaurant experiences very seriously because we rarely have the opportunity to go out to eat. We recently went to Talya's based on online reviews and were extremely disappointed. To begin with, this is not a fast food restaurant and should be using cloth napkins and something better than white butcher paper on the tables. While the wait staff was very accomodating, the food was well below par. The soup (we tried two different kinds) was not good - it contained unusual seasoning that was not to our liking. The steak and brisket that we ordered were awful. The steak was cut horribly and grossly overcooked (even though it was ordered "rare" because almost all kosher restaurants tend to overcook steak). The brisket was very dry and obviously reheated previously. The only good part of our meals were the side dishes - both the french fries and mashed potatoes were good. Also, while the singer who was performing the evening we were there was fine, the music was too loud and we could not hear each other across the table. It certainly was not dinner music. The next time we are in New York, we will be going back to our "usual" haunts, Abigael's and Mike's Bistro.

    Just Alright!

In from out of town.Went to Talia's based on internet reviews and location. Ambiance was just ok.Talia's needs to decide if it is a local bistro or a nice steakhouse. T.V's are distracting, prices are high, meat mediocre. Ribs have no meat(had to send back) and sauce is poor. Service was good, very polite.

    100% Satisfied!

Talia’s is not just one of the best kosher restaurants in Manhattan, it's probably one of the best restaurants period. Their Spare Rib? Delicious. Their Chicken wings? Super delicious. The Bone in rib eye ? Ultimate deliciousness. Recommendation: Go on Thursday night for their recession proof menu -- $28 or $39 a person gets you free delicious beef and beans soup. Amazing taste! And, great live music with no cover charge.

Talia's Steakhouse - My new favorite restaurant

While I do not usually write reviews on these websites, I felt compelled to post because of what an amazing experience I just had at Talia's Steakhouse. from start to finish everything was absolutely perfect! We walked in the door without a reservation, and while the place was nearly full, we were helped immediately and felt very welcomed..which is rare in a city full of "busy" hostesses and inattentive staff members. Our waitress came over promptly and told us about the specials of the day which sounded amazing! while perusing the menu we dove into our delicious wine. While everything on the menu sounded wonderful, I decided to try one of the specials, Beef spare ribs ..and boy am I glad that I did. What arrived were 4 huge, juicy tender ribs with the meat just falling off the bone...with mashed potatoes and veggies the price was a steal! Dessert was also amazing and for the quality and quantity of everything the bill was low as ever. In closing all that really needs to be said is that Talia's is amazing, affordable and delicious. Don't take my word for it..do yourself a favor and go to Talia's. I know I will be back!

    Not recommended

Went with a group of 15 people on a Saturday night. Service was poor, typically couldn't get a drink unless you asked the waiter several times and ultimately would have to go to the manager to get anything done. The food was horrendous, matzoh ball soup had no flavor and the matzoh ball was still cold. The 'rib-eye steak' was 50% fat, several of our orders were essentially raw, the meat appeared to have been cooked for 30 seconds on each side so that it appeared that it was cooked, but was still basically raw. The manager was extremely sleazy and tried to sweet talk you in to being content with the poor service/food his staff was providing. Value isn't worth it at all, paid $70 for tasteless soup, a rare piece of fat, and two watered down vodka drinks that took 1/2 hour to serve.

Poorest restaurant that I have ever been

They gave us a prime rib they said was 16 oz but was more like 5. They must have weighed the bone. The meat was fatty and undercooked, and they charged an astonishing $48 for it. When we complained they lowered the price and said they had cut it badly (?) and that if we had ordered the prime rib for two we would have been given 40 oz. Hard to believe. I do not know why they could not have cut that piece in half. I still cannot believe it was such a waste of money. Not good food, bad service. Ugh
