    Superb and healthy

The food is highly competitive with the more up-scale Turkish restaurants in the area but the prices much lower. I go there regularly and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and friendliness of staff. Ideal for a casual and speedy dinner. Be sure to try the Australian Shiraz.

    Take a Taxi to Taksim

After looking at the beautiful pictures of the food for months, my little group ventured into Taksim for dinner. We ordered 5 appetizers which we shared family style. Everything was very freshly perpared and very fresh. Stand outs are the artichokes and shepard salad. Main courses are also very good. You must try the whole grilled fish. Wonderful! Lamb dishes are also great. All the desserts were wonderful with the exception of the rice pudding. It was just a bit too thick for most of us. The rice should be cooked a bit longer so that you don't feel as if you are just chewing on a bowl of rice. Be adventurous! Try the Turkish beer and wines. Sweet apple tea and strong turkish coffee were also great. Dinner for 5 including drinks, appetizers, main course, appetizer , coffee or tea for some, tax and tip was $170. Bargain! Oh, and parking is free on the street (after 6pm) or $8.58 (after 6pm) at the parking lot on 54th between 2nd and York.

    Fantastic!

This place is super! Wonderful food, great atmosphere (beautiful wall hangings, brightly colored walls, nice crowd), good service, and a superb value. The food is extremely fresh, well prepared, and the portions are quite large. Definitely a place to order from if you live or work in the area, and worth a trip from anywhere in the city. Note: many of the dishes use the more familiar Greek names (falafel, etc.) rather than the Turkish names.

    Wow...

This place is amazing. I have been there 4 times and absolutely love this place for it's value, amazing service, and delicious and unique food. All the appetizers are amazing, especially the falafal. I have ordered a few of the entrees which are quite basic, but prefer the specials because they are a lot better and original. The owner actually cares about your food and dining experience and makes sure you leave satisfied. You can't beat this place for the price, first-class service, and delicious food. Truly a hidden treasure.

Best food I had in NY

I love to try ethnic foods and Taksim did not disappoint! I had a great meal there for relatively little money. I went to a couple of other NY restaurants while I was on vacation in NY and Taksim was better than all of them in food quality and value as well as on par with the best of them for quality of service. I would definitely go back there.

Can you say yum in turkish?

One wouldn't expect such an appeasing little Turkish cafe to be sitting on 2nd ave on 55th street and not 5th street. But with Taksim you have the ecletic taste, vibe and economy of being in the village with out the hassle of jumping in a 10 dollar cab ride. The food is authentic, delicate and hearty. The interior decor was well planned out, with some very lively paintings accentuating the the andalusian styled tilework and vibrant atmosphere. The waitstaff is very kind and congenial. The value is magnificent. It's hard to find a small rack of tasty lampchops anywhere in Manhattan for 15 dollars. The appetizers range only up to about 5 dollars. The food does not suffer from degradation of perigrination when ordering in, but they do often forget small items including a salad once. Sincerely apologetic Taksim always rushes back to the apartment with the ordered goods, and usual a little dessert item as a credit of greivance. Everyone I have brought or recommended to Taksim has thanked me for an invitation to a quality dining experience. I think you will concur, deliciously concur.

    Great for beginners

Being reluctant to try certain types of food, I had an extremely comfortable dining experience. The food was incredible and the pleasant decor made the flavors really made the experience complete. Very inexpensive and very cool!
