    The truth

This restaurant has really good authentic Mexican food for a really inexpensive price. They get two thumbs down for the wait time; the waitresses take a very long time to take your order and the food takes an even longer time to come out. Another thing is they will try to overcharge you. At first I was under the impression that it was a mistake due to poor calculations but its happened too often, so always check your bill and ask how much especially when requesting a delivery.

    Great, if you speak spanish

Great Mexican food. Really outstanding, fresh ingredients. Some of the best in the city. At the restaurant they are perfectly nice and helpful. Try ordering on the phone and you are rolling the dice. There is one woman there who speaks zero English and always answers the phone. Depending on her mood she may put someone else who speaks English on the phone. But other times she just hangs up. I get it, you don't speak English, but other people there do. Do not hang up on me! I just want to order my dinner! It is really bad business to not be able to have the person answering the phone be able to speak English.

    Finally, real Mexican food

Just had a fantastic meal. Real mole! Authentic cheeses, great corn tortillas, excellent guacamole (double your order, seriously), very fresh ingredients. And the food arrived piping hot. So glad to have found this place!

    Long overdue praise

Thank you, La Villita for your delicious consistency in cuisine, for picking up the phone EVERY time I call, for making sure my orders are correct even when I'm not in the mood for onions on Tuesdays. La Villita is not to be slept on! They carry some of the best Mexican take-out (I have tried) in Hudson Heights in over 2 years. The burritos are not only huge, but flavorful! Plates are also large in proportion, very tasty and saucy all the way through - chilaquiles and enchiladas (w/ queso asado and green sauce) --- definitely a "must try!" For drinks - Horchata (w/ cinna stick) is my fav, and for cold days: Arroz con Leche (warm rice milk). Even the coffee holds its own with just the right amount of sweet and strong (could it be Bustello?) I have never visited personally, but customer service is on par and are always accomodating. I hope they are here to stay!

    Take THIS, los angelinos

New York City often gets an unfair rap for not having good mexican. Mostly this is because the type of fare being served is either upscale fusion in upscale areas, or rather shoddy food served in touristy areas. I've been going to this place since it was "Tacos Neza" maybe 3 or 4 years. Just to get the criticisms out of the way: The music is CRAZY loud on weekends or if its busy, the decor is lousy. But everyone there is friendly and helpful, they smile and understand the menu items you order when you point at them, but just don't expect delivery unless you can at least give your order and address in spanish. That aside, the food is excellent. Tacos come in tortillas hecho a mano made from fresh masa harina for an extra $0.50 or so. On weekends they have Pesole which is pork and hominy soup as well as barbacoa de chivo. They also have some more unusual items like Tlocoyos which are topped in fresh cactus. I will freely admit that the root of mexican food is fresh ingredients, and we have a huge disadvantage here compared to CA when for example tomatoes in winter are more akin to softballs than tomatoes. But this place is the real deal. Lunch specials of ribs in salsa verde, huevos rancheros are fresh eggs over easy on top of one fresh tortilla each and coating with cotija cheese, you name it. It's not fancy, it's not in an ideal location for many new yorkers, but it's authentic, authentic, authentic and much care is taken in preparation and taste. HIGHLY recommended.

    The real deal

We discovered this place on a walk the week after I returned from a week in Mexico City eating "muy delicioso" food. The chiliquiles are as authentic as I recalled, guacamole, tacos, fajitas -- it's all fresh, high quality and so good. It really does matter that you order in Spanish. Find an interpreter ASAP. There is no other Mexican as far as I'm concerned.
