    Taco Deliciousness

Walked by the vibrant Taco Bite truck (the truck is painted to resemble the patio of Frida Kahlo's Blue House in Mexico) and was arrested by the chalked sign "Vegetarian Taco - Tofu in Chipotle in Adobo sauce". Interest was piqued but I was on a tight schedule - thought I'll see this truck again - but then stopped in my tracks resolved to make 2013 a year of difference....I ran back to the Taco Bite. Spoke with the very amiable and knowledgeable staff (owner?) and ordered that tofu in soft taco with Avocado Crema and Picante Rojo sauces. It took mere minutes to prepare (enough time for me to brave traffic on Broadway and check out the full rendering of that patio - awesome! - on the other side of the truck. I walked away with my taco encased in a styrofoam container (not crazy about that part - recommend recycled material?) and quickly found a seat. First impression- it's going to be a messy meal - but then isn't that part of the fun of street food in general and inherent to the taco? Putting mechanics aside...the ratio of filling to corn tortilla was spot on. The highlight of the filling were the sauces. I had been warned that the Picante Rojo sauce was hot - indeed on the chalkboard it has 4 peppers next to its name! - and the staff had recommended the Avocado to balance the heat. Both were amazing - there was a four-alarm fire in my mouth but in amongst the heat there was real flavor....and the Avocado Crema was silky smooth and mild - a good counterpoint! The only other components were cilantro/onion and they were applied sparingly. The tortillas themselves were soft, fresh and corn-tastic. Overall the simplicity of the taco was appealing and it delivered taste! I would note that the tofu (which is of course a bland protein) either needed longer marinating time or perhaps could have benefitted from grilling)?). I am eager to return to the Taco Bite and sample another vegetarian option
