A recently disappointed Taboon fan
Live in the neighborhood & went to Taboon in January after reading the NY Mag's Top 100 restaurant issue. Very impressed by the restauarant then & loved everything we had. However, on my most recent visit on a busy Sunday night, we were very underwhelmed & did not receive the quality service or food we had expected based on our first visit. The $12 drink I waited too long for lacked flavor and, I suspect, much rum. The much lauded hummus took more than 40 minutes to reach us. When it did arrive, it tasted like the chickpeas were missing & the only ingredient was tahini. Yuck. We sent it back. The crab salad- perfect plating & taste on our first visit- looked thrown together & was missing several components that made it so good the first time. It was served in what seemed to be a tea cup saucer. Weird. Halumi salad was good as was the hangar steak. Overall though, I expected an experience similar to the fabulous one we had a couple of months back. Next time it'd be nice to see the chef in the kitchen rather than out on the floor speaking with customers. Maybe that was the problem.

Not sure what to think now....
I like Taboon a lot. I go there a lot. Dining there last night, however, I had a seriously unpleasant experience. Our server was impatient and inattentive. We ordered fish special, received small end of tail piece (shouldn't be used in restaurant of this caliber). Short ribs were 50-60 percent fat. We returned the fish on offer of a switch out, a few minutes later the fish was returned to us(!) (offer apparently rescinded). Server abandoned us after main course, we were never offered dessert menu, coffee, anything. I eventually had to stand up and seek out the house manager, who was very gracious and reduced our bill significantly. I'm still a customer, but yikes was it a mess.....

Must try if you're in the area
GREAT FOOD- Loved it. instead of pitas the bake thier own fresh thin bread and serve it up with delicious hummus and titzike(sp?)- anyway all the apps were great, we decided to just get a bunch of those because they all sounded so good. The scallops were fantastic in particular, and the falafel was like none other. Good wines too, we had a great Spanish wine that was 40$ or under, and they have about a dozen wines by the glass too. Go there, you'll be happy.

Adding to my rotation
I had cut a Taboon restaurant review out ages ago - maybe even a year ago - but, I had never gone. Now I am filled with regret for all the time I lost. I loved each dish and now intend to frequent this restaurant. The bread was to die for, and all items were cooked perfectly with just the right mix of ingredients, from a light fish to a heavy steak. The wine list was value-priced and the waiter did not try to upsell - he recommended a reasonable wine to go with our meal. Overall, it was a great experience - I can't wait to return.

Delish
I have eaten at Taboon a few times and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the Taboon brunch...amazing eggs benedict...with steak! Just make sure you emphaize how you want it cooked....it tends to come rare. We went a few Mondays ago and they have live Spanish style guitar music that was unbelieveable! The hummos might be the best I ever tasted in NY and the osso bucco can't be beat. Limited but good wine menu and generous drinks. Great parking! By far, the best find in Hell's Kitchen. Ooops...I forgot to mention the bread...it is amazing! Atkins be damned!

A great chance find
I was out on the town for a friend birthday in this area of town and walked by the restaurant. I saw a Flaminco Dancer flyer outside and noticed it was busy. Later that night it started to rain. I remembered the great looking restaurant nearby and we stopped in for a late dinner. We were thrilled with the menu, the service was fantastic, loved the odd sized white breakfast nook-like tables. The meal was worth the price. The bread was great! They had a wonderful wine list and dessert was out of this world! I would return here in a heart beat!
