Wonderful lunch!!
We enjoyed a delicious, elegant lunch inside the Bread Bar. Food was imaginative, sophisticated, and exotic yet familiar enough to still be refined and comforting. Tabla definitely knows how to create great and interesting flavors!! The slow cooked wild stripe bass was amazing, the perfect balance of unique spices matched against the delicate fish in an incredible broth with tender baby vegetables. So good! Goan crab cake appetizer was also mouth watering. The mango ice cream with coconut and carmel desert was nice finish. Service was very attentive. Atmosphere is lovely, suitable for a date or business lunch or relaxing afternoon. I plan to go back for dinner! Loved it.

genius food
Haven't been to Tabla in a few years and went for dinner last night with my husband. I was floored, floored by how fantastic the food was. I am a vegetarian and the last time I was here there was almost nothing for me to eat. Not so anymore; not only are there several choices in their three course pre-fixe, they even have a whole vegetarian tasting menu. I had the creamed spinach samosa and the kuchidi, followed by their chocolate dessert and the cheese course. Cannot say enough good things about the food. I think another poster on here had it correct; if you come for traditional Indian food you may be disappointed as the flavors are more subtle; if you come for New American food and want that Indian influence, you will be blown away. I loved it! True it is on the expensive side, but the quality of the ingredients and the masterful cooking make it worth it. Will definitely come back again.

excellent food, embarrassing service
Went to the Bread Bar for lunch. Beautiful outdoor seating in the atrium of an old bank, across from a park. The food was excellent, but not at all what I ordered. I notified the waiter when it came. She apologized and offered to leave the wrong entree (steak) and bring the entree I ordered (fish). Meanwhile the busboy refilled my wife's half-full coke with ice tea. I never received what I ordered, but still got charged for the entree I didn't order. I left a 10% tip and this review.

Poorest value in the city
The food was average at best, but still somehow was priced as if it were Per Se. Poor value for the cost, tiny portion, expensive drinks and nothing even remotely memorable. You are much better served eating elsewhere

mediocre food in lovely setting
the setting is undeniably beautiful. old bank transformed into lovely restaurant. but the food! bland and careless. i have had better food on an airplane - not even only in first class..! not bad. just absolutely not worth the price. there are amazing indian restaurants in the 20s on lexington ave. any foodies: do yourself a favour and go there and not to tabla.

Weird...just weird.
I've eaten at the Bread Bar many times and the food is ok. That's about it. The hostesses are beyond snotty. "Can I HELP you?" while looking you up and down. Um, gee, let's see. What do you think I'm here for? To get my income taxes done, you dope? I want a table, obviously. The last time I went I said we were just there for a drink and we were turned away! It was sit down and eat our overpriced and overrated food or leave. So natch, we left. The food at the upstairs restaurant is a little weird for my taste but it's a really pretty room.

Amazing!!
I've been going to Tabla for the past few years and have never been dissapointed. Last night was no exception. We ordered the market tasting and everything was absolutely amazing. They start you off with a trio of amuses which is a great start. It introduces you to the great flavors that await. The first course, the seared kobe beef is indulgent, melts in your mouth and the rice salad is a perfect counterpart. The rice flaked lobster is amazing and very unique, crunchy and the sauce so flavorful. The duck two ways was cooked perfectly, with crispy skin and a great orange sauce seasoned with the perfect amount of spice. Desserts are awesome as well (including the dessert amuse). The wine list is great, with pleny of choices that are great and not too expensive. Service is attentive, knowledgeable and very efficient. Oh, and don't miss out on the bread, which is baked to order in a real tandoori oven. Highly recommend it for any occassion!!
