    Poor service, great food

The food is delicious, but the service is poor. All the waitresses were clearly hired for their looks and not their ability. I've been here more than once because of the great food (nice brunch), but I am always frustrated by the wait staff. I understand if it's busy you have to wait a bit longer to get your food, however, on a slow Sunday my friends and I waited more than fifteen minutes before anyone came to our table, and then another half an hour for coffee, which we finally got after our food. We received milk for our coffee after it was cold and when we asked for it a second time, the waitress seemed annoyed. I still tip nicely because I know how a restaurant works and know that waiters have to tip out others, so I can't take my anger out on the waitress that way, since it doesn't seem fair. I only vent my frustration here in hopes that the owner, manager, who ever, will do something about it, because I truly love the food.

    Excellent Food.

I've had almost every item on the menu as well as countless specials, and I've never been disappointed. The food is rich and flavorful, and always done just right. The service has always been excellent when I've gone, even though I'm not chummy with any of the servers. They are attentive, but not overbearing. The patio is really nice if the weather is right. The portions are on the small side, but it's more than enough if you eat all your veggies. (I love the haricots vert) Besides, you'll want to save room for the banafi cake, which is sublime. And there is a bartender there who looks exactly like Katherine Heigl. Exactly. So it's got that going for it, too.

    Good with caveats

I've been a regular for years, and the food has changed, but stayed pretty consistent. of note are the fried calamari, meats are their strong point: burgers, hanger steak, pork tenderloin. brunches are pretty light. great outdoor garden. However, service isn't their strong point. i'm getting pretty tired of the "owner" and his manners. he should be running a club not a restaurant. my husband and i came in waiting to be seated, when a couple of tarts hobbled up. the owner sat them first and completely ignored us. if you can stomach watching him flutter about chatting up young chicks, your girlfriend or wife and can stand his dismissive attitude toward other customers then Sweetwater would be the perfect place to bring your hot date. what has become of a neighborhood when regulars don't count anymore?

    Never disappoints

Just went here last night with my parents and a friend--we got there after a broadway show around midnight and they were still serving food and the place, while not packed, was still active. They were out of the 2 fish dishes, not surprising for a friday night, and had plenty to chose from. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed with the food--always fresh, delicious, balanced with good flavors. Sometimes a bit salty but they're great with special requests--my friend can't eat dairy products and they made her spinach without butter. The 3-cheese gnocchi with truffle oil was deliciously rich. The winelist is brief but great. It's not cheap but not ridiculous and I love the atmosphere--great outdoor seating in the summer. And open late! Love it.

service and food quality went down

it was one of my favorite hangouts, however, it has been almost a year since i last dine there and it was a bad experience this time. my friend and i ordered a burger and chicken which took over an hour! the waitress was nice, but was more social with her colleauges, sipping wine than paying any mind to her customers. the chicken came out and was dissappointing...i could barely find the leafy green underneath the chicken, and it was literally 2 small legs of chicken, this entree was offered at $17.95. i guess if the service wasn't so bad, it would've been okay to pay $17.95 for the chicken.

    Great Atmosphere, Good Food

Sweetwater is a cozy restaurant that has a really wonderful ambiance. The outside deck is great during good weather. The appetizer that is to die for are the Provolone Stuffed Saffron Rice Balls. I know it's an app., but the order is far too small for something so good! Contrary to the prior review, I did not enjoy the mussels. I don't recommend them. The best Entree's are the Trout and the Canneloni, with the latter being possibly the best I've ever had!!

A Jewel In The Heart of Williamsburg

Wow ... last night marked my second visit to Sweetwater for our 1 year anniversary. First of all the outdoor patio is heaven -- this is the perfect dinner setting -- beautiful patio, great lighting, nice design. The wine list is extensive and everything we've tried has been amazing. The service is fast, the waiters cheerful, efficient, and attentive. The food is out of this world! Last night I had a perfectly cooked Hanger Steak medium rare that melted in my mouth, served with the creamiest absolutely perfect mashed potatoes. Pierre, my boyfriend, got the stuffed chicken which was pretty good but not as good as my stake. Still, amazing. For appetizers we got the calamari, which was great. Last time we got it too, it was served with a kind of nutty thai tasting cream sauce instead of the normal marinara type sauce. Which was amazing. Last night it was more of a creamy ranch type sauce which was good, but I was looking forward to this peanuty sauce which was perfect with the calamari. We also got the lobster soup with a little ravioli in it which is probably one of the best soups ever... yum yum yum. The first time we went, we tried the burgers ... we saw everyone eating them (served on an english muffin) and it was such an original, amazing burger ! we saw lots of people eating the mussels so those must be good. maybe next time. Such a wonderful restaurant, it has everything going for them!
