I thnk sweet melissa is amazing. And the cashier she was so pleasant and friendly compare to the other staff I've encountered. She went out and beyond to help me find a dessert I was looking for. She makes sweet Melissa's seems like such a pleasant place to go to.

How is this little place still open? So-so to poor baked goods, coffee and hot chocolate served half warm and the nastiest staff in park slope - they must ship them in from somewhere else, God knows where. Or they get special training in how to be RUDE AND SLOW AT ALL TIMES because that's what you get here. AND THEY CHARGE FOR TAP WATER. Particularly sad because Park Slope needs nice places to take all the tots, and this should have been one of them. Please close. Please just go away.

Things are not on the fast track here. Of course, one wonders why anyone would want to race through a pleasant experience. The scone, for instance, is offered with a small ramekin of 'double cream and raspberry preserve.' The mocha coffee is feathered with real chocolate, not a bland dollop of coco from a can. The coffee is great. I have difficulty understanding a person not appreciating a quiet bit of time in a nice little spot, but then any situation is largely what you make it.

The pastries and the cakes are always fresh and delicious! The staff, however, is not so great. It also depends on who you get, I guess. Some waiters and cashiers are friendlier than others.

How on earth does this place stay open?? Took my little neice there, begged for a waiter, 15 minutes later finally ordered a coffee, a hot chocolate, and 2 separate desserts. Another 15 minutes later - half an hour of sitting at an empty table - the completely asleep waiter brought one item: a cold, watery hot chocolate. I complained; he said it was "too busy". Pastry items came separately, were dull and tasteless, coffee never came but was on the bill.

i heard all about the service issues here but we were in the neighborhood and this seemed like a nice spot to get some dessert. but once we sat down and ordered coffee and cake, it took us 45 minutes to actually receive our orders -- cold. there seemed to be two waitresses working the rather empty cafe. (to be fair, the take out line was out the door but how long can it take someone to grab a pastry from the ktichen?!) besides the absolutely unbelievable waste of time, the pastries were nothing special.

Sweet Melissa is such a quaint little cafe. While I have only ever had their coffee and pastries, I love them. The environment is exactly what I want from a boutique cafe. Yes it is pricey, but the quality is superior and everything is always tasty. I particularly like their currant scones and pear tarts though all of the pastries have been good. I definitely want to try their afternoon tea and their brunch.
