After reading all the reviews, I decided to try this place out. Now I've had a ton of sushi in my day, including some of the best places throughout Japan, so my standard may be much higher than most. Food - all in all not bad. I only had sushi so I can't comment on any of the cooked stuff, but the fish is fairly fresh but is it world-class? No. The [select]ion is very average. That said, I'd eat there again (for delivery, perhaps) and the food is acceptable. The value in my opinion is excellent, however. I had a TON of sushi (I eat a lot) for less than 40 bucks, and as I said before, the food is not bad. So it's a great value and I might do it as a local place for delivery, though I don't think all the previous accolades in other reviews are warranted.

I went here based on the reviews I read. I was not disappointed. The sushi is great - the best Philly rolls I've ever had. The service is good too. It's usually not too crowded and the food comes quickly. I highly recommend Sushiya!

I went here after research on menupages. Man, all the previous reviewers were right. This place has incredibly high-quality fish/sushi. I got plain sushi, nothing fancy and started with my least favorite -- what a surprise! Buttery, tender, melt-in-your mouth fish. I'm not quite sure how they do it because they must get their fish from the same places that every other sushi bar in the city gets them. I went alone, with a book. It got a bit loud, but I'm really just sad I couldn't go with somebody to savor the food!

I am so happy this place is a block from the office. After discovering it, I find it very hard to eat sushi anywhere else. They melt in your mouth. The place is very plain, no decor whatsoever but the point is not to have a romantic date. Most of the business is lunch crowds, and believe me, there are crowds. Come before 12:30 or risk a wait

My favorite sushi in the city. If you're on a date, or just have one or two friends with you, get the boat. Enough to fill anyone up. Fresh food, and delicious.

I have been eating at Sushiya at least once a week for the last five years. The food is always, always fresh - and that's is the only true way to measure sushi food quality. Never ones there were lower quality fish or ones that were not fresh. Beyond that, the presentations were always good, the service very friendly. The candy mints on the way out are fabulous. I do have to say that some of the wooden bridges or wooden boats for plates do need to be replaced. Its my best place for sushi in all of New York for value and quality.

I came to New York hoping to eat some yummy sushi and I got it at Sushiya. It was fresh and tasted delicious. My favourite was the tuna but also really liked the salmon. The miso was a little ordinary, but was still good. Even though I didn't have a booking I was seated immediately and the service was friendly. I would recommend this place and would come again.
