Mediocre food, poor service
I went here for a friend's birthday expecting a good time. They wouldn't seat us until everyone was there, and when they finally did, we were seated next to the noisy, crowded bar. We could hardly hear each other speak. The food was not as great as expected. Totally not worth the price. We brought in a birthday cake to surprise our friend. They took forever to bring it out after we requested it. Finally, when the check came, they ambushed us with a cake cutting fee of $2.50 per person. If they had told us ahead of time, it would've been fine. When we asked to speak with the manager about it, she gave us an attitude and condescendingly said the fee is standard at all NYC restaurants, which is completely false. After we paid and left, our server had the nerve to chase us down the street accusing us of coming up short. She recounted the money and realized it was the correct amount, didn't even apologize and ran back. Never ever will I nor any of my friends return.

Market driven
Not a bad place... a good hang out for 20 somethings who just got paid, but not what I call sushi... No disrespect but the Japanese don't go there.

Past its prime...
Went to Sushi Samba 7 this evening...to get the superficial stuff out of the way, it is a lovely venue, great music, and staffed by the hip and gorgeous. Lots of Eurotrash and wannabe Eurotrash dine here. The food is ok to good. Everything is definitely way too salty...I had the yellowtail ceviche, which was nothing to write home about (had a better one at their Park Ave. location). The sushi rolls were merely average. The drinks and dessert were the only strong point. Nice place to take someone if you want to impress out of town guests.

Only go for drinks
After calling twice to confirm that our reservation was for the upstairs roof deck (pretty much the only reason to go there) we arrive.. and obviously there are no tables available on the roof deck. Fine.. we thought oh well we will make the best of this.. our waiter.. although attentive.. could not have less of a personality.. and seemed bothered to be at work that day.. Overall the food was presented beautifully.. but lacked taste.. and I would highly recommend NOT getting the sushi.. Overpriced and just plain unappetizing.. Sushi Samba is a fun scene for drinks.. don't waste your money on the food.

Always good, but always the wait
I love the food and atmosphere at this place, however, I always begin every meal here frustrated. I always make a reservation and it never fails that every time I show up I end up waiting at least a half hour past my reservation time. I once waited 35 minutes for an 11:30 pm reservation. I understand the NY restaurant scene - I've lived here a long time. I don't need to be told that the party at my table has paid their bill, but haven't left yet. You've been in business years, at this point, you have to realize that people like your place and are going to stick around a while to enjoy that last mojito and all the excitement you've managed to create. Congratulations on that success - now stop overbooking the reservations and making people wait a half hour for their table!

Loved It, But dont host a Surprise Party
Great restaurant as always. I tried to have a surprise party for my friend here, and it was a disaster!! The hostess lost our reservation, and she sent all of our friends who came early away because "You cant be seated til your whole party is here.". Stupid rule for a surprise party, dont you think? Other than that, still love the food, great for a friday night... but dont try to surprise anyone there!!!

Amazing
This is absolutely my favorite Japanese spot in NYC. The miso sea bass is absolutely to die for. The sushi is always very fresh and well presented Although they're a little pricey I've tasted the majority of the appetizers and all are amazing. The atmosphere is fun and high energy. Loud. Make sure to get reservations or you'll wait forever. Highly recommended.
