The food and value are pretty good, but the (lunch time ) manager is lousy. Instead of trying to resolve a situation, he was rude and escalated it. He needs a course in how to be a manager.

This restaurant does not honor its reservations. reached the restaurant at 115pm, 15min late from the time of my reservation as i was trapped on an delayed subway train (anyone who has taken subway before would understand this) and was told my reservation has been cancelled and i have to wait at the end of the walk-in queue for minimum 25 min for a table for 2. I tried to explain to the receptionist guy that i have tried my best to make my way here on time and i have no control over my travel time but he just shrugged off indifferently and said he 'didn't know that'. of course he didn't. He did not even bother to call to confirm that i was already on my way before wantonly canceling my reservation. The guy had zero professionalism and zero empathy level that is far from befitting of a japanese restaurant. i usually would not mind queuing for food if i had leisurely joined the queue, but not when i have suffered much stress and anxiety trying to meet my reservation time, only to be told i that i have to wait at the back of the walk-in queue. The area for queuing and waiting was also too claustrophobic anyway. i did not eat at this restaurant thanks to the appalling service i received. But i reckon it is their loss anyway, since i eat japanese food almost on a daily basis.

I've ordered from and have eaten in at Sushi Yasaka maybe a dozen times over the past year. The food never disappoints and the price is right. Great atmostphere and excellent service. You could do a lot worse.

The sushi & sashimi here is very good and the prices are fair. The chef's omikase at the sushi bar is a bargin, but the portions are small. You will get better value from the sushi entrees on the menu. Try the Miyabi entree.

Poor experience first time walking in without a reservation, took a long time for the manager to just tell us there's a long wait. Called for a reservation next time, too a long time and two tries to get the manager to be on the call, no greetings or whatsoever. At the restaurant hearing the same 1.5 hr wait told to other customers but there were open tables the entire time we were there. Regular sushi was ok. The crab roll was $13 for 5 pieces and way too much mayo and killed the flavor. Service was poor, to just ask for hot tea and wait for food was long. Don't have one single reason to ever be back again.

Sushi was far superior to other restaurants - definitely recommend. Wine was fine. Tempura tasted like they had used rancid oil - not so great. Service not so great either.

Have now been to Sushi Yasaka several times. Find the sushi quality to be excellent and very fresh. Their tempura batter is light and tasty. Very hard to find good tempura in NYC and this has to rank among the best. Would recommend the vegetable omakase tempura. Overall good value for money and best fish in the area.
