    Took Our Breathe Away

Cozy UES restaurant atmosphere reminiscent of Japan. Freshest seafood quality, friendly-efficient service. Amazing sushi! You gotta try the Omakase! A bit pricey, but truly an experience like having a playground of taste and texture in your mouth. Worth the money. We are coming back!

    Misanthropic

I give Sushi of Gari a zero for food, let me explain...Last Friday my wife had our first baby at Weill Cornell Hospital just a few blocks away from Sushi of Gari. She hadn't had sushi for 9 months so asked me to get delivery of the best sushi in the neighborhood to the hospital the following night, and I wanted to make that special of course. I called up Sushi of Gari earlier in the day to ask if they would deliver to the hospital, and I was told by the manager no problem, they do that all the time. So I called back from the hospital room around seven that night and the woman on the phone told me that they don't deliver that far away. When I said that I had earlier checked that they did, she admitted that yes, thats in the area, but the restaurant was so busy that she preferred not to do any delivery at that point in time to customers she didn't know personally. Finally, she actually said that she didn't care who i told - Sushi of Gari didn't need new customers. I am still appalled by their arrogance and had to get this off my chest.

Get the chef's tasting menu. It's amazing!

This place came recommended by a friend who is a total foodie. He told me to come in, ask to be seated at the bar, and just ask for the special chef's tasting menu. I only told the server what I was allergic to and she took care of the rest. All of the pieces I was served were one of a kind with amazing garnishes. They will serve you until you tell them to stop. Amazing.

    great place to eat!

On the suggestion of a friend, my gf and I went to Sushi of Gari. In a nutshell, it replaced my previous favorite sushi place as number one on my list. Our waitress was great, the sushi was great, I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience.

    best sushi i've ever had.

Though very expensive, this was by far the best sushi I've ever had. We got the omakase (3 plates of 4 pieces for each of us- each topped with something really unique). The salmon with roasted tomato, the baby yellowtail with lettuce topped with some kind of fried chip and the yellowtail "ceviche-style"were exceptional. At $85 per person, you'd expect to be full by the end of the meal... not the case. If you are the slightest bit hungry, youre going to need more food then the Omakase. We ordered an additional spicy tuna roll and 2 additional tomato/salmon and yellowtail/lettuce/chip pieces and the waitress did not charge us. Service was fair- not exceptional but by no means poor and the decor is unassuming. The place looks like countless other brightly lit average NYC sushi restaurants. But again, this place has the best sushi I've ever had.
