Don't know what I'd do without sushi hana
I live on the UWS and order from Sushi Hana at least twice a week, sometimes three times (I know...I'm a sushi addict). I dine in about once every couple of months with my son or niece or friends. Sushi Hana has delicious, fresh sushi, serves up generous portions of amazingly fresh fish, and their servers and staff are laid back in a great way -- warm, friendly, welcoming, and chill. No attitude; they simply care about their customers' experience. My only suggestion is to lower the volume of the TVs in the restaurant; they are always a tad on the too-loud-to-talk-or-think side. The restaurant is always exceptionally clean, including the restrooms. Sushi Hana is my -- and my son's and my friends'-on-the-UWS's go to sushi place. We rely on Sushi Hana for our frequent sushi fix requirements.

Pass on this for infinitely better sushi anywhere else
Rude waitress & just keep ignore my attention. My drink was late before appetizer. just not worth it. Forget that everyone is practically sitting on top of everyone else. The waitress seemed not to be able to speak English at all.

Way too pricey for what you get...
I thought I'd try this place out considering all the raving reviews, but I was sadly disappointed. The sushi was good, but the other entrees we ordered were sorely lacking in flavor and freshness. The salad that came with my order was quite wilted already, and the entree food was subpar. I'd much rather make the trek to East Village or other Japanese restaurants...

good food, not service
sushi was good. my boyfriend and I went directly to the sushi bar and thought we would just be able to order from the sushi chef. unfortunately, we had to wait for our server who never came to us unless we flagged her down. we had to ask 3 times for water, and we had to call her over to us at least 4 times. I think there were only 2 servers in the restaurant and although it did not seem busy, we were constantly trying to hunt her down. i must say that besides the service, the sushi we ordered was wonderful. we also loved the rock shrimp tempura app.

best sushi north of masa
Masa, in case you don't know, is the place on Columbus Circle where you pay $400 per person and the chef serves you what he likes! (true) Sushi Hana is where you can get sushi and other kinds of Japanese food (like light, airy heavenly tempura) for far, far less. The 8.95 Bento box at lunch is one of Manhattan's great food bargains. But at dinner, sushi lovers can enjoy plenteous, perfectly fresh fish that is the equal to Masa--but without the onerous price. Also, the friendly waitstaff and skilled chefs will supply whatever you desire. It's our favorite place to eat in Manhattan, and never disappoints.

Fresh/Meaty pieces of fish
my boyfriend and i went here on a whim after quickly searching for sushi places on the UWS. on menupages it said this place was called new yoshi and so when we got there we were a bit disappointed that it was under new management, but then the food/service surprised us. i've never seen sashimi and fish in the rolls portioned so generously. the meat was succulent and had a big bite to it. we also got one of their speciality rolls: godzilla. it was divine! overall, we are so happy we came across this restaurant and now it's quickly become one of our faves...
