Very expensive with small portions
Being somewhat of a sushi lover and eating it in NYC once every two weeks I found Sushi Damo to be very expensive with tiny rolls that are medium grade at bbest. I spoke with the Manager and his response was you get what you order.

Thumbs Down
An average eatery at best. Hugely overpriced. Verdict: Avoid.

awful place
This place overcharges like crazy. Nine dollars for a soup that can fit in a thimble? The Tuna Salad was absolutely awful. Completely bland, overly fishy and didn't come with dressing. We spent $120 on lunch and it was such a waste.

Rude!
I've eaten here before and not been super impressed with the sushi. However, one rainy night I decided to place an order for delivery from them. I placed an order for a rainbow roll and hung up. When I called to change my order a mere 2 mins after placing it, the woman hung up on me and refused to take my amended order, stating that the original order had been ready and she would not allow me to cancel it and place a new order. That unnecessary rudeness means I'll never go back there again.

Looks better than it tastes
Let's start with the good stuff... Good salad and good chicken. Unfortunately, after a couple of bites I looked down, and all my food was gone. The portions are SOOOOO small! For $15, you'd think you'd get more. The shumai was the only really nasty bit, and the sushi was decent at best.. didn't taste fresh at all. The miso soup had a weird taste too. The rice was good (VERY small portion though), and the chicken was good, just portioned for a little kid.

Not great for NYC
We don't have good sushi in our hometown, and were hoping to get some in the big city. The sushi was sub-par, not much or any better than what we get locally. The sushi rice not cooked well. I've eaten much better elsewhere.

Excellent sashimi, but not so authentic
As a neighbor of this restaurant and a native Japanese, I was interested in this often crowded place and had finally given it a shot. Sushi Damo had excellent sashimi or raw fish, which I enjoyed very much, but sushi did not taste right. The reason I discovered was that their rice did not taste authentic. I did not tasted acidity but some flavor which I couldn't figure out where it came from. Authentic sushi rice is marinated in a mix of vinegar and some other ingredients. The taste of rice is critical as it gives the complexity in the taste of sushi. In Japan, the formula is often only prepared by the head chef and kept secret even to his son. Although I liked the generous propotion of great sashimi and rice, which was about 3 to 1, the combination of sashimi and poor marinated rice as sushi clearly reminded me I was in New York. Given the high quality of the sashimi is considered, I wished they used more proper formula for rice.
