    So fresh and tasty!

Had the prefix lunch for $35.00 with a co-worker and we loved it. Sushi was delicious, miso soup with mushrooms was also great, fillet of salmon and the black cod were so fresh and cooked to perfection and for dessert we enjoy the green tea ice cream which was also outstanding (Japanese style: not sugary/creamy). Fast service and overall a really good Japanese restaurant.

more egg/pickled veggie than fish on chirashi

I don't normally write reviews for restaurant but I think I should mention how I have been to at least half of the Japanese run Japanese restaurant in the city and have yet to see another chirashi that has so much eggs/pickled vegetable compared to fish ratio. The cost of the dish is $27. I actually don't think $27 is a lot of money to pay for a quality chirashi but it is ridiculous how little fish (although I have to admit the quality of fish itself is not bad) there is in this one. And the presentation of the dish is only average. I hope their other items are better but I do not think I will return to find out.

    Glad we stopped!

Visitors from NC. We were on our way to another Japanese restaurant when we came across Sushi-Ann, and I'm glad we did. Split the nightly special of salad, salmon, 2 sushi rolls and desert ... walked out the door for $50 and plenty of food for us both. Great atmosphere ... no loud music to talk over.

a California roll in a $35 sushi/sashimi deluxe is just wrong

yes, that's what you will get! This is a good sushi restaurant with awful value. There is a very good selection, an appropriate fish to rice ration and very good fish quality - but the value is atrocious compared to other comparable quality Japanese restaurants in Midtown.

    Under the Radar Excellence

This is Ally's favorite. We agree that it is very expensive, but fresh sushi grade fish, ordered a la carte, is not on the cheap. The sushi is traditional and very Japanese as is a good deal of the clientle. Allow the chef to select for you. Suggestions - toro, baby shrimp, uni' sometimes from Japan, kampachi, grilled cod. It is a memorable experience each time. Wonderful sushi men and service. Ally's last two birthday dinners have been here. Amities Gourmandes, ally's dad

    Best Sushi dinner in Manhattan

This place is absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and we sat at the bar. The sushi and sashimi that was prepared was full of flavor and variety. When you go to Sushiann, I would suggest trusting the chef to prepare all of your pieces. It's a great way to try things that you normally would not order. We were served just the right amount of food. In my opinion, it was the most fresh and flavorful sushi we had ever had. Although very expensive (around $300 for 2) it was worth every penny! And we will be returning!

Spectacular sushi, but not for the cheap

Disregard the reviewer below who complains about portion sizes and the "lunch menu." You don't go to a place like this to fill up on a cheap lunch combo meal - you come here to eat outstanding, fresh, and very unique fish. Ideally, you sit at the bar, surrender your palette to the chef, and bring a generous dining budget. Quite simply, this is where I go when I want to eat the best sushi in the city - I don't come here often (dinner for 2 runs around $300 if you sit at the bar, easily), but I have never been disappointed with the variety, freshness, taste, and yes, even the value. There were many kinds of fish I thought I hated before tasting them here - for example, I had never had *good* toro from other sushi spots, and avoided it like the plague. Here, you have your choice of 2-3 kinds of toro (generally "fatty," and "medium" - both amazing). In sum, Sushi-Ann is where you go when you want to sit, take your time, and truly enjoy *top notch* sushi.
