    Disappointed in this restaurant

A group of friends and I reserved a table and went together. The bill came up to about 200, and around a group of six people, that's pretty decent. We gave them about 9 dollar tip but then while we were about to leave, they stopped us and told us that people typically give 15-20%. Now, we're a bunch of teenagers, so I don't think we should've given so much tip, especially for an okay service, but for courtesy, we paid about $30 tip in total. We're not happy and we are never coming back. The food was good, but service was eh.

    Delightful and pleasant

You can count on Surya for a relaxed and tasty dining experience. The dining room has a calm ambiance and we never felt rushed. Service was attentive and not obtrusive and the food was great! You can dress up or down, either way we've found it to be a reliable and pleasant night out where the focus is on relaxing, good company and clean tasting Indian food.

    Surya?

I have been to many Indian restaurants around, NJ, I now live in NY. I never heard of Surya, but I thought I would give it a try. I was first greeted and made me feel comfortable, the place was nice, cozy, nice cushions and chairs, calming music. Top tier. I ordered chicken tikka masalla, and bhindi, and they were amazing. The rice was amazing, and so was the naan. I now eat a surya every week, and order in alot. Its just amazing, every delivered food is good. I think it might be bigger, but not sure.

    Valentines Day can disappoint, but...

Last night a guy I'd been on five dates with invited me over to his apartment for the first time. I assumed that it would be a romantic evening, being that it was Valentine's Day (or the day before, when everyone was celebrating). That Valentine's Day or any Hallmark sanctioned holiday should never be "celebrated" is another matter. In any case, we ordered out from Surya. The food arrived, cooked to elegant perfection. The rice with peas was fluffy and surprisingly full of flavor. The lamb with cardamon sauce was delicate and expertly spiced. The paratha was buttery and layered and crisp but not too crisp. The chicken saag had a nice kick, and the spinach wasn't thick with cream or overcooked like saag so often is. I really like this guy. He's funny and smart and attractive and kind--the first guy I've met in awhile, really, with whom I've felt a genuine connection. As we sat on his oversized couch and the evening drew to a close, however, he didn't make that move that every crushed out girl on Valentine's Day longs for--the romantic gaze, the romantic lean-in, followed of course, finally, by the cinematic, romantic kiss. To be deprived was so unexpected and strange and disappointing. What's my point here? That affairs of the heart, or what you hope might become affairs of the heart, always have the power to disappoint, but a good meal like the one you'll find at Surya never will.

    subpar

I ordered delivery. Got the chicken tikka masalla and garlic naan. The sauce was bland, watered down and was closer to tomato sauce than anything else. The naan was soggy. Do not order from here. I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about.

    Great Service & Group Friendly

Went to Surya last night with a group of 8 and had a wonderful girls night. The staff was very attentive, the food & service were excellent. I would definitely go back. For those people that have "first timers" in their group I would highly recommend the Tandoori Chicken...Also try the Garlic Nan with a side of Mango Chutney. This restaurant also has a place to eat outside in the back of the restaurant.
