My daughter and I finally decided to try this restaurant. What a pleasant surprise. It was clean, cozy, and effecient. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The staff was very polite , knowledgeable and did not hurry you. Their wine selection was very good and varied. Everything was very reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back.

I ordered from this place last night because it was the cheapest and closest place. BIG MISTAKE. I love Thai food and always get the same thing-- red curry with tofu. It came quickly...fast delivery. But I got my bad food even faster. The tofu was super soft (it's only good when its fried), the red curry recipe had tomatoes and potatoes which replaced the usual bamboo shoots and red peppers. I would have complained and called to tell that their food was horrible but I figured a bad review was basically the same,

Sura is the best Thai food on the UWS and maybe all of Manhattan. We honeymooned in Thailand and found Sura to be the most authentic Thai food in NYC. Sura is the only Thai restaurant we recommend on the upper west side. I just wish they delivered to the 70s. We order in and take the subway to pick up. It's worth it every time.

I've ordered from Sura a couple of times and while I hadn't necessarily been impressed, I certainly hadn't been, say, offended. The food may be oily, the staff maybe a bit rude, the space may be shockingly small, but none of these things are criminal. The same cannot be said of my recent experience. I ordered take-out and, upon realizing that both I and my boyfriend had ordered food, called 30 seconds later to cancel (not an exaggeration, by the way). When I called, they told me it was impossible to cancel the order and that the food had already been made. After 30 seconds. I had made the mistake of ordering by credit card and they said the only way they could cancel was if they had my signature. I'm a New Yorker, which means I've been ordering take-out since I was in the womb, and I've never run into any policy like that! I said that since it was late and they insisted on a signature, that I would come to the restaurant tomorrow to void the charge if that was really necessary (it's the principle of the thing) and the woman on the phone asked why she should believe that. As if I benefited from being charged for a canceled order. I said that I would come by and that I would even give a tip despite the disagreement and was promptly answered with a dial tone. When I called back they did not answer. Two hours later, however, at 12:30 at night, they expected me to answer my door. Stubborn, rude, unprofessional, and even spiteful, the staff has finally managed to make Sura stand out in my mind: Forgettable food, unforgettably appalling service. I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The food was the worst Thai I ever tasted. I didn't come close to finishing. The food was dirt cheap and the service was fast but still wasn't worth it.

While there are plenty of happy hour options in the area, Sura is one of the only places that serves good food at happy hour prices to go along with the drink specials. Draft beers are $3 (includes imports) and there are four $6 dishes to choose from: pad thai, chicken curry, thai basil and fried rice. I believe there are also specials on wine, sangria and mixed drinks but not sure about the prices. We tried the fried rice (chicken) and thai basil. Both were meal-size portions that can hold up to the quality of other thai restaurants in the area. I will definitely return for the happy hour special, because at $24 for two dinners and four beers this is one of the best deals in the neighborhood.

So normally I don't take the time to write these reviews because I generally do not feel compelled enough to do so. Well, this afternoon my conscious would not let me get away without sharing my experience. I ordered the lunch special from Sura today for the first time. Normally, whenever I want to get my Thai fix, I order from Land. No more. Sura from now on will my my go-to Thai restaurant. I got the oriental salad, grilled salmon (with the sauce on the side), ginger brown rice and thai iced coffee. The salad itself was fresh and I liked the addition of the quail egg but I did find the dressing to be too cloyingly sweet. Next time I will add my own dressing or ask them for an alternative. The salmon, however, was PERFECT. It came with a shockingly large (for a lunch special) salmon fillet which was roughly 6 oz. of perfectly grilled salmon. That was on top of a large bed of steamed bok choy, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, etc. The sauce was on the side as I requested and was quite good but I preferred the healthier, simpler route of no sauce. The brown rice was cooked perfectly and wasn't mushy or too hard. The addition of ginger to the rice was quite nice as well. The thai iced coffee was excellent, extremely refreshing and a steal for just $1 extra. All-in-all, I highly recommend you take the leap and give Sura a try. It is a great choice, especially if you are trying to eat healthy and don't like to be weighed down with all the oil that is commonly used in Americanized Asian cuisine. Also, best of all, it is a great deal! I mean 6 0z. of salmon in an $8 lunch special?? Unheard of!
