Low end of the Frank Empire
I have been a regular at Frank since it opened nearly 7 years ago, and I've loved Lil Frankie's Pizza for several years now. I appreciate his sister restaurant Supper-- same easy, comfortable style and great wine list but with more ambience and elbow room-- but the food is far, far below the level of Frank's other Italian spots. Mushy pasta, bland proscuitto, and tasteless vegetables every time. Nearly every dish needs cheese or salt or both, and the yummy-sounding veggie contorni arrive in pools of oily water. I still love and support Frank's restaurants, so long as they bear his name in the title.

..And I Never Eat At Italian Resturaunts
I usually make pasta at home but my sister took me to Supper. I loved the communal style seating. It's loud in here but you feel like you're at your cousin's house in Sicily. The portions are nice and human, not unbearable massive like at most Italian resturaunts. After only an 8 minute wait for a table on a Thursday, we were seated and started out with crusty bread and cannelini beans. I had a great glass of Champagne ($7) Wonderful and delicate little Butternut Squash Anolini with Sage Butter Sauce and I loved my sister's Spinach Gnocci. I would overlook the small portions and the crowding and come back again and again for the great food and atmosphere. Great place for a 3rd date or bunch of friends! A+

Just happened upon it
Fantastic place overall. Loved the butternut squash ravioli and the branzini specials. Our waiter was extraordinarily helpful and the service was surprisingly quick. On the down side: wines seemed expensive, and I was unprepared for the "cash only" policy. My advice: bring plenty of money and sit at the bar to watch the food being prepared. You won't be disappointed!

Bring Patience and a Small Appetite
After an agonizing wait my friends and I were led downstairs to a comfortable dining area--comfortable until the other two parties next to us arrived. Given the room's acoustics I could barely hear the person next to me but overheard a good deal of the other tables' conversations. The friendly waitstaff, divine bread and delicious smells wafting down from the kitchen revived spirits that were ultimately dashed when each persons entree arrived 3-5 minutes after the other. Even more disappointing than my now cold food was the meager portions--$14 for 8 not even homemade ravioli, you've got to be out of your mind!--and the lack of flavorful oomph in the cuisine round the table. My advice--stay for the glass of wine upstairs and the jovial atmosphere but run home for your pasta fix.

Surprisingly very good
After reading some great reviews of this restaurant I just had to try it. I went very early, before the opera, and we just walked in, no wait at all.The atmosphere is nothing to talk about, but that doesn't mean as much as the taste of the food. I did like that the kitchen was open, because I personally enjoy watching the chefs cook.. By looking at the menu it seemed a bit limited and not as vast as I expected. But I must say, I did find and order things that I usually would not have ordered. Each dish, appetizer thru dessert, mine and my friends as well, because I did taste it all , was really and truly delicious. The food was like down home Italian, not commercial. I would definitely go back. In fact, I can't wait to.

lonnngg wait, but semi worth it
We went there on a saturday night at around 9pm, they dont take reservations, and we ended up waiting for over 2 hours. The communal seating was extremely annoying, you are literally sitting side by side with a stranger and you had to yell to be heard. However...the food was amazing, and you can't beat the price. I recommend going on an off night, and make sure you don't sit in the communal sitting area.

My Favorite
The mushroon trifolati is to die for; I suggest you get it every time you go (that's what I do.) This place is so cute and tiny. The amazing food is prepared in an open kitchen surrounded by hefty, communal tables. (But, you can also choose to sit alone in a booth.) Everything is made on premises with the exception of the dried pasta.
