The best Italian by far!
Doesn't look like much from the outside but what a great Italian NYC restaurant! Food, unbelieveable! I had the veal and my sister had the pasta. Everything was amazing and the ambiance was great as well. Had such a 'homey' feeling with a warm atmosphere. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Referred and Loved
I love this restaurant. I live on the UES so sometimes I feel too lazy to go all the way downtown, but the superb food always gets me down there. The atmosphere is great - communal tables and unlike other posts, I've never had any issues with the service, in fact, its always been great . I, and all the friends I've ever brought here, highly recommend it.

Referred but Deterred...
The food is great but the staff can be rude. I recently dined here with a group of 13 (3 showed when we were just finishing off appetizers). We were not taking up extra space as our table barely sat 10. We were rushed from the moment we sat down and the 3 joining us were told that they could only order dishes that were "quick". Meanwhile, half the dining area cleared out and I saw no scramble to fill the seats. Our bill was over $1,000 and we were being treated poorly. Although the food was great, our experience here was unpleasant, and this after the birthday boy raved about the place. If you do go, I highly recommend the prosciutto & fruit, the cured salmon and the rabbit, which is served with a wonderful polenta.

Fantastic - but...
A great dining experience - the food is really amazing, the decor is so charming, and the service during the meal was good, a pleasant waiter made it very enjoyable....UNTIL the waiter suggested we didn't leave enough tip - he wanted 3 dollars more.(apparently 20% isn't good enough. anymore)....I found this unacceptable given we spent a lot of money in the restaurant. It's unfortunate, as I really enjoyed the food, but it ruined the experience for me - and it will probably take me a long time before I can think about going back - if ever.

My favorite Italian spot in the city...
Yes, the wait can be ridiculous but it's only because everyone loves this place. Come early if you can to avoid the rush, have drink at the bar w/ Lisa the friendly wine perfectionist bartender and then once seated, enjoy a home made Italian meal that feels like you're sitting with family. My personal favorites are the spagetti con limone and the risotto w/ pear and cheese.

Worth going downtown for!
I live in the upper west side so when I was starving one night and my friend took me down I was a little more than anxious. But to my surprise it was worth the wait, the wine list was superb, the atmosphere was cozy, and the food was excellent. The mozzerella cheeze appetizers, the zucchini, everything was extremely tasty. For my main course I had the drunken tuna steak marinated in chianti and it was heavenly, my friend had the Gnocchi which was the best I ever tried, it had a light refreshing taste. And dessert was superb as well. I look forward to returning!
